The biggest obstacle I've encountered every time I tried to make a dream come true is time. Because it doesn't go back, I can't fix the past. People say "if you fail, try again and learn from your mistakes", but they forget about time, our life span is too short, our resources are limited, and our health is so fragile, we don't have countless opportunities to try again and again. And the saddest part is, a lot of people don't even have a single chance, for many reasons.

Studies have also shown that depression is also associated with incriminating "bad behavior" to a "bad self". That means, the disappointment or failure of a dream, only proves "I am a failure", I am worthless, inferior, etc. Not being able to separate a "failed SELF" from a "failed DREAM" is what leads to depression (based on major Attribution and Hopelessness Theories of depression). I know countless people who have chosen to put their hope in God through life's failures, and bring their "bad self" to the unconditional love of God in Christ. There, I stop hating myself, blaming myself.. and there, I find hope.
@veryangrypigeon

In my experience depression is exactly the absence of hope. A result of long term stress and biological factors. When you've been trying hard to hang on and do whatever you were trying to do that is over your body's capability to handle. Stress hormones keep building up trying to help you survive in that situation. But eventually depression hits. I feel like even depression has a little purpose. If it didn't happen after long term stress then your body would probably just fail and your heart stop. It is your body's ultimate message to you that you need to STOP, rest and take care of your body and yourself. Get rid of all stress by removing yourself from dysfunctional situations and ways of thinking for starters.

Bad things happen to good people. Whenever something unfair happens I always think "well, life IS unfair" and it helps me let go of bitterness. Exactly!! Of course forget about all the thousands or millions of kids needing a home or parents, we must have our own kids -----we are so damn awesome!! We have convinced ourselves we are so unique that we need copies of ourselves for our lives to mean something. If passing our genes to our offspring is the goal, then donating them to some organisation for others would solve it, but it seems women (mostly or more than men, want to have their own kids, the ACT of birthing someone is the point, it seems, like all other animals women were designed for it and don't feel complete until they do (mostly), and men are almost universally unable to resist a woman/female in heat. As a man, I have never gone to bed with a woman thinking or hoping she gets pregnant.... and I bet most women don't either, most of humanity is an accident, a surprise pregnancy.

I understand that hope is a muscle that needs to be exercised. I believe that dream is a muscle also. What do you do when your dream muscle has atrophied from lack of use? You can't exercise your hope muscle if you have no dreams to hope for. With no dreams you might as well be dead. You're (I'm) not really living anyway, only existing.

Perry Connell I hope you've stopped and listened to your deep self since your post. lack of dreams is generally sadness, lack of confidence, and deafness to our deepest self without false stories of what we can and can't do. Ask yourself What is it that I am grieving?
@philphilips1020
7 жыл бұрын
Geraldine C That's an excellent question, Geraldine. I don't know the answer. Many things I suppose. Who among us isn't grieving on some level? But I can tell you one thing that eats at me this time of year. Mother's day was 2 days ago. My mother walked out on us (my sister, dad and me) when I was 5 and my sister wasn't even a year old. She didn't do it to escape some terrible abuse or injustice. She did it because motherhood didn't fit the lifestyle she wanted to pursue, which was that of a party girl. So I basically grew up without a mother. If I was to play Sigmond Freud and psycho-analyze the situation I'd say that maybe that's why I've always felt so starved of female attention (which I suppose has made me look needy at times, which I suppose is why I never got much of those attentions that I so desperately wanted and needed).
@xiqueira
7 жыл бұрын
Perry, yes everyone is grieving, but when we lose something essential in childhood like a mother, and it is obvious to us or noticeable in the way our lives were lead during those years, then that is deep and that takes work to "reparent yourself." In order to not be wanting of what your mom gave you, therapy in reparenting may help and you learn how to give your inner child what you need. Search "reparenting your inner child abandonment" and you'll find tons. I am sure you may have seen/read all this. But I hope it helps. And just maybe you were better off without her, than if she had stayed but been abusive and resentful and dragged you through her lifestyle.

I am currently at the Air Force Academy Prep School and I've just been told by a captain that my gpa is the lowest at the school. I already hate it there, but I don't want to give up the dream of becoming a pilot. I gave up so much and yet Im still failing.

Your GPA represents how well you've taken in information and applied it to tests. That doesn't always determine how you will apply that retained information to real life experiences. Perhaps you need a different way to study. It don't give up on your dream. Almost last to finish is still finished.

tallboywitshortpants Improving study habits can drastically increase your GPA. I know from experience that employing techniques such as mnemonics, state dependent learning and others can make a tremendous difference in your ability to recall information for tests. Look into these techniques, put them into practice and I'm sure you will move up far from the bottom of the pack!
