Great video! One thing I like to do on the driving range is simulate a round at one of my local courses. Basically, I will go through my preshot routine, visualize the tee shot and try to hit the ball to position A of the first hole. Then depending on where that shot ended up, visualize what the next shot would look like until I'm next to the green. I will do this for each of the 18 holes It gives me a feel for what it's like to switch between different clubs. Instead of hitting a particular club a few times in a row, I hit one then move to a different club just like on the course.

That's an interesting idea Woodsy, do you use a little launch monitor or anything? Might be worth it

Tnx, I'm 40 and just starting with golf, haven't had any lessons yet, but I see the importance of the driving range drills and goals, not just shooting them, but have a plan what to practice...ie. 20 balls to warmup, then 20 balls wedge practice

Swing has improved alot, well done and you're young so you've time to go as far as possible to consistency in the swing which is the holy grail. I restarted golf in early 2021 and inconsistency is my big enemy but since I've started using a golf swing trainer,it's a gold flex and there are 2 models 48 in and 40 inch, they he.l hugely with tempo, feel and warming up. To me excellent. Well done to you and you're going to be very good

Man I swear I have walked along the same path as you, just about a year behind. I started playing in July this year and zombie session’s definitely define my first couple months just getting the hand eye coordination down. Much more focused now and if I go to the range with someone I am always last to empty my bucket. Just taking my time with some practice swings 0:01 between hits. Great video Luke, keep it up.

Very nice video. I will use a club on the ground for alignment to whatever my target is. This gives me constant feedback at address of the ball and also saves some time when working on the range.

Awesome video Luke, your Range sessions are quite extensive and very focused. I usually do something quite similar, just with less balls. I find it impressive that you are able to hit that many balls, I get tired way to fast. Keep the content coming brother

@@UpDownGolf I tend to keep the Range sesh to a minimum roughly 30-40 balls, I must add, that I spend around 1.5-2 hours on the chipping and putting area.

What’s the video he told you to watch? What’s the link? Really like the videos. Glad to see your improvement. I’m currently at a 13 handicap from 25. I took lessons, but I’m tired of paying $200 US in lessons a month.
I put 2 tall tees' just on the grass in front of the tee box on the line I want to hit. This makes sure I also concentrate direction.

What I do. Is I warm up with my GW or PW. Then hit full shots on each club uo to DR then oractice shirt shots, mid irons to long irons. Then last 50 balls I'll play my local course in my mind. Set up to DR. Depending how I hit each shot then I'll decide what club I'll have left to hit the green. So on 1st at my club if I hit a good DR about 250 ill need 120 on so a nice PW in. If I hit a shite drive I'll then say I'll need a 6 iron to save it.

Good video Luke 👍🏾 A few different games I player the range are; Pick 6 clubs out of your bag and hit 1 ball with each club rating each shot half a point for strike and the other half for dispersion left to right. Idea of the game is to get a full point with each club for a total of 6 points. Do this for 3 rounds trying to match or better your score each round. Try hit shots with the biggest amount of curvature possible on the ball, so I aim out to the right and see how far I can hook the ball then aim out to the left and see how far I can slice it (I can slice it very easily 😂😂) I got this idea from Bubba Watson as this is something he would do to learn club face control and what it feels like to hold the club in a totally different grip and still be able to put a good strike on the ball. I've used these shots on course quite a few times. I would also advise on different days of your range sessions to spend more time on your wedges. Some days I spend 50 - 60% of my bucket on them and have seen an improvement in my game.

@@UpDownGolf The 6 point game was just something I made up one day at the range. I tend to only take 6 - 7 clubs to the range helps me concentrate more on what I am practicing on.

I do similar at the driving range except the stretching which I will add to my session. I prefer to go to a football field to practice my wedges with my own golf balls. I would like you to try a good Pro, Just like you, I got a few that just went through the motions but there are good ones out there. I don't like the idea of sending off a video to get advise, I like the interaction of the pro, tweaking my swing until I get it right. I notice you don't use alignment sticks for your feet and ball position. Great video, look forward to the next one.

Always interesting to see others practise and your routine is logical and makes sense. I do pretty much the same thing except that after an exercise warm up I might hit one or two drives/Fairway woods first as that mimics what actually happens on the course when you have no range facilities to use before your round. I never hit anything without picking a target out. I usually work up through the bag then at the end 20 balls or so, hit random clubs eg Driver then 7 iron then wedge then 3 wood etc etc. But yeah, what you say is mint 👍

Nice insights Luke… I think you transition from being non intentional practice to then having focus. I believe having a few lessons encourages this mindset. I preferred 1-2-1 approach personally but good to see innovative options for others. Another point …Going to range costs in terms of petrol, time and money… make it work for you. ATB Gerry 👍

13:05 what 90% of golfers(beginners or 50yrs play) never ever get. We are told to keep our eyes on the balls = glue both eyes down at the ball = neck never turns beyond a certain point = body cheating to keep "back swing going" You already figured this out. You probably are not even aware. During the backswing the head "needs to turn back" with the whole upper body system(shoulder, straight arms, wrist bend, club) until everything locks(can't go any further). At this point, you still got "one eye at the peripheral" focused on the ball. At the same time during the back swing you're sense of "balance" is in charge. Not the eye. I am a veteran of over 40 years of this obsession of which I recently quit 100%, but I still think about it. I have a friend who is a total beginner who want to start to play 99% of videos out there is rubbish that only focuses on one element out of a thousand. Your stuff is great. Not only since you are improving, but you are also on a quest to "understand" the golf swing. I can see a few things that can be improved, but I am pretty certain you will figure it out organically. However, the eye, neck turn that you do during the backswing is the key. Without this a golfer can never develop controlled power, efficiency and consistency in the golf swing. Keep on.
