Awesome collection! One word about the algea: They develop in the clear containers, when you fertilize. Light, water, and nutrients equal algea. Leca wouldn't let in as much light as the white perlite. You have to be caucious though because algea use up a lot of nutrients. So when you repot into an opaque pot you would want to dial back on fertilizing and find a new equilibrium. good luck, Carola

I recently took the plunge and purchased two different hoya but for their foliage only. If they flower then that will just be a bonus. Low expectations but always hopeful. Thanks James for the tour. Such a great collection. I really would like that variegated carnosa compacta next. Love!🙂

Someone asked me WHY HOYA? I thought I still have more philodendron but I was wrong. I thought I have 20 of hoya, but it is.. 85 now and 40 philodendron. I was wondering why and I think it is because they were not so expensive untill last couple of weeks. It changes a lot now. I am collecting them for 1,5 year. They are taking less space than araceae and the blooms are so exciting. Big leaves are cool, but when you can take care of hoya and it blooms under your care - it is like another level of mastery. Some have pretty leaves, some are ugly but with beautiful flowers. Oh! and the smell! They can smell so wonderful and it feels like a cool prize :)

Expecting hoyas to vine without a trellis or stick is like expecting rain to come from the ground up. They need to feel supported. When they throw out a peduncle, it’s like saying sos. Not trying to be rude, hope it can help.
