As a Ghanaian I have watched with complete shock where tourists come to Ghana and get fufu without the locals giving them any instructions or pointers as to how the food is eaten so you will find people fumbling with the food and not knowing exactly how to enjoy it. Fufu as opposed to a majority of the food in the world is meant to be swallowed after it is dipped or whipped together with the soup around it. Fufu is NEVER meant to be chewed, and that is what I noticed most tourists do at the watchful eyes of their Ghanaian hosts who just look at them as they struggle with the food. Once again dear tourists, fufu is meant to be swallowed and not chewed. This is my first time on your channel and I think you did a great job as a solo traveller Emily. Akwaaba to Ghana 🇬🇭

It's considered rude by most people in the world to try and instruct a guest on the way they should eat the food. Saying you shouldn't chew something isn't very normal or widespread. If the person shows interest in asking if there is a traditional or cultural way to eat it, then of course. It can also be mentioned in conversation, but not instructed. "Not know how to enjoy it" ?!?! I can assure you, people know themselves which way of swallowing they will enjoy. Reminds me a little of when I visited a friend's family in Denmark who treated me to lovely smørrebrød - and despite enjoying it very much, I didn't eat it in a way that Danes consider normal. One uncle at the table began to mention it and the others told him off, telling him to let me eat however I like haha The main reason I wrote this is because I've enjoyed fufu the same way that I've eaten food my entire life, which you would have insisted was wrong. The idea of slipping it down my throat doesn't appeal to me. It's something I'd try of course for the principle, but there is not right or wrong way to consume food once it's already in your mouth. It's however you feel most confortable, and that changes from person to person.

“That’s different..” is a polite way of saying I don’t like that… 😆

A well cooked fufu goes with variety of fish. The way I saw the soup with one chiken wing , I know immediately it was not going to taste good.

You need to deep the fufu in the soup to avoid or reduce the stickiness. You are better to eat it with groundnut soup

I think the lady did not understand when you asked if it was not to negotiate prices on Ghana yes it is normal to do that if you don't they will cheat you, because they know ghanaians will always do that so the sellers hike the prices so when the buyer negotiate they won't also loose on profit

Moreover you used the tops of your fingers to hold and pull it and in that case it will look sticky no water 💦 is on your hand or soup that can prevent it from been sticking

😮 Im so sorry for how the Air BnB guy treated you. He was actually coming on to you. Ghanaian men are very very forward. Some women like it, but some really don't and it can come off as harassment, but the everyday Ghanaian is clueless to the concept of "harassment". Advice to anyone visiting Ghana: Plse do some research of the culture and mind set of the people to help with the culture shock.

You needed someone to teach you how to eat the food. you will not enjoy fufu or bank if you are not taught. Fufu and banku are swallowed not chewed

You can bargain on prices, I think the lady did not understand what you meant.
