Useful stuff, thanks Ben! I'd add that charging at dealerships is generally better for plan B, maybe plan C, depending on your options available. Aside from the lack of amenities at many dealerships outside of business hours, the potential for chargers to be clogged with inventory vehicles (or just generally awkward to access) is too great for these locations to be the main charging plan, unless you have no other options nearby. Keep up the good work!

There is the reference you made in a comment on my chan about the 80% stopping a percent or two early causing a panic. Freeked me out. I thought the car was broken. ;-} Glad I am in good company. Cool vid. I agree I shy away from EA due to over crowding, poor reliability, and de-rating. My home town of Charlotte has one EA station, but it has actually been really good each time I went there. There are ten stalls. EA is also finishing up 3 new locations in Charlotte so soon we will have 4. It feels like they are improving. Still, I favor EVgo for several reasons. First of all I charge free there nation wide due to the LYRIQ purchase. Secondly, as the lesser known network, there are usually stalls free and repair has been occurring more quickly too as of late. Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.

My advice to a prospective EV buyer is to RENT the EV you think you want, for at least 1 week. Try a Tesla, and try a non-Tesla, and take them on road trips. See if an EV is really going to work for you, before spending big money on a very expensive disappointment. I would, however, recommend a vehicle with CCS charging over CHAdeMO charging, simply because it's more widely available. The other good choice, is Tesla, with it's well developed "Supercharger" network. This is especially important, if you cannot charge at home, and have to rely solely on public charging.

Recently got a Tesla and a big decider was charger availability. A thought on adaptors. They will need to meet TWO requirements, the obvious one is to match your charge port to the NACS (Tesla) plug, but it also needs to be long enough to reach the left rear (back in) or right front (nose in) of the vehicle because superchargers have short cords. I have not seen this discussed anywhere yet.

Yeah so far we've seen an issue at the Magic Dock stations in NY and CA where EVs like the Bolt and Mach E have to take up two spaces because the port is located on the front of the car. From what I've read, V4 Superchargers will have longer cords.

Unfortunately EA is going up $3.00 on their monthly plan here soon. In their current situation/ state, I can’t justify people staying with their network. It is always something. But what I have noticed is if you don’t have one of the monster charging cars you’re normally ok.

My buddy Kyle Conner told me a secret to always use at an EA Station and has worked every time for me. Subscribe to EA before charging. When you arrive select the charge stand in the app, swipe to charge, Then plug it into the car. Works every time. The app will indicate an error, ignore it just close the two pop up windows using the X in the top of the pop up. Your car will continue to charge.

We have more ChargePoint DCFC locations in western Colorado than EA or Tesla stations. EA is limited to Interstate corridors here. The ChargePoint DC chargers can be found in many small towns far from the Interstates.

Didn't say it here but I've generally had good luck with ChargePoint DC Fast Chargers. The 62 kW units aren't the fastest around but can at least max out my Bolt.

@@BensEcoAdvntr Many of the 62 kw chargers around here have recently been upgraded to 200 kw units.
