The FRA is the federal government agency that oversees regulation and procedure on all railroads in America. As with unions, I see them as a necessary evil. Most test procedures are set forth by the FRA but some are company policies which can, in some cases, be more strict that the FRA.
The FRA sends out inspectors who are responsible for a specific area to go over equipment and signal circuit plans to make sure everything is up to FRA standards and those inspections are done with us alongside and can take anywhere from one to four days. They also show up at false clears and derailments.
