My husband and I are a bi-racial couple. His family did not like me. They said if we have kids they would have problems in life because of who they are and we would be lucky if our marriage lasted 6 years. Things got worse until we had our daughter and life was so much better when they realized that baby was part a of them. By the time we had our son you could never guess that at one time they did not like me. We did not last 6 years but we are going on 42 years of marriage in July. Had to tell my story. You guys are a beautiful family. 💜U

My husband’s mom had passed away when he was 18, so I never had a mother-in-law, but Lord, I had a Grandmother-in-law that disliked me because I was the second wife. When I felt in my heart how she was, I basically told my husband that I had a grandmother and didn’t need another one, and that he could visit his grandmother all he wants, but WITHOUT me. Needless to say, she passed away, but in her final days, I went with him to visit her in the hospital and it turned out I was the only person that understood what she was saying (she had a stroke). She held my hand so tight in that hospital that I knew she was trying to apologize to me. My hubby and I will be married 30 years this December. My advice is you just have to be your true self. I just love your channel!

@Carmen Fox Acts 2:4-47 [4]And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. [5]And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. [6]Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. [7]And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? [8]And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? [9]Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, [10]Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, [11]Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. [12]And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? [13]Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. [14]But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: [15]For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. [16]But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; [17]And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: [18]And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: [19]And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: [20]The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: [21]And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. [22]Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: [23]Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: [24]Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. [25]For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: [26]Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: [27]Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [28]Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. [29]Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. [30]Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; [31]He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. [32]This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. [33]Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. [34]For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, [35]Until I make thy foes thy footstool. [36]Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. [37]Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? [38]Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39]For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. [40]And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. [41]Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. [42]And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. [43]And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. [44]And all that believed were together, and had all things common; [45]And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. [46]And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, [47]Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

I've been through a lot of mess and drama with my in laws. I no longer have anything to do with them and it is easier for me this way, but difficult for my husband and our children. I'm afro Cuban and my husband is Mexican and Puerto Rican, and I know for sure they wanted him to marry a white girl. I know everyone's situation is different, but think twice about marrying someone whose family has decided that they don't like you even before they meet you. This goes especially if your S. O. has not put their family in check with regard to you, and they are really close to their family and completely comfortable with letting them be in their business all the time. This was the case for me and it put undue strain on my marriage. Having children in this situation only makes it worse. When you marry someone you do marry their family. Life is too short to be trying to prove yourself to people all the time. It sounds harsh to start off a marriage with ultimatums and ground rules, but they are necessary when you have in laws that act a fool. 😒
@angelaclarkgreen5478

I feel you, it was the exact same for me. We have to be the ones to take all the foolishness until enough is enough. Sometimes, even the ones closest to you mean you no good and are toxic. Once you find, you will never be enough, as I did, you have to move on and not allow that to interrupt your quality of life.

Having healthy boundaries is not a bad thing and I had to set them with my in-laws as well and my husband has had a hard time putting them in check too. But recently he had a conversation with them after me having a breakdown about how they treat me. They were so rude to my husband (their son) and dismissive he was shocked and kept saying to me that he didn't understand why they were acting that way and then his mom said she only came to visit to see our daughter. That hurt my husband and when he said it hurt him she said oh please you know what I mean. It was later revealed that his parents and sister have zero intention of visiting us or being around us expect maybe once a year for 2-4 days for our daughters birthday. He chose to then make his own boundaries with mine and they have abided so far. Sometimes you have to let your S.O. experience the pain in order to understand your hurt; it broke my heart because I didn't know that would happen but happy we are on the same page now.

I'm Jamaican and my husband is Haitian. I remember when I met my mother in law and she spoke creole to me just to see if I was Haitian. The family were very upset that he didn't married a Haitian. They made life very difficult for me for years they even said that it wouldn't last. I never uttered a word to them.. never argued with we just lived our lives. In the end the family grew to love not that it mattered because we just celebrated 23 years of marriage. I thank God that my husband always had my back. My advise is to be respectful stay true to who you are when they see that you are a loving person that cares for your spouse they will have to accept their decision.

Dicey Icey If your in laws don't like you - be extra nice to them. Don't ignore them. Show them you love your partner and his/her family. In time you will melt their hearts. If not, you still did the right thing. In time most get used to it and the positive you bring will be what they remember. Sometimes difficult in laws can actually bring couples closer together. They need the love and support of each other more - which can turn into a blessing. Parents often have an image of who their kids will marry. Suddenly when that person is completely different and another race - it can jolt them at first. They need time love and patience to realize the world is not going to fall around them. In interracial relationships extra patience is required. God bless PS. Enjoyed the series from tonyevans.org on kingdom family. Well worth a listen

I have been married twice. My first husband died. I’ve been very fortunate to have had great relationships with both my MILs. Here’s an important piece of advice: Women set the tone for the entire family, from the core family to extended family. Curtis is right. You need to keep things positive!

Well, my story, unfortunately, ended up with a divorce. We have 2 kids and I have taken them back home so they can be surrounded by people who actually love them and not fake it in front of me. Just know that there is 50/50 so choose wisely because my husband, he was strong for 3 years to fight for our relationship after we got married but he could not handle the manipulation and he started playing referee, trying to force everyone to like each other while his family refused to even go to a therapist to solve their issues but he wanted me to accept whatever his mother wanted so I stopped it and I made sure I will not please a man that wants to please his mother more than his own wife and kids so I filled for divorce. If I will ever get married again, my in-laws will have to love me or it is a deal breaker and I have learned the hard way. I won't do this mistake again!

My husband's family didn't like me either, and I rarely see them. I think my problem was trying to hard to get their approval, maybe I came off as not being myself. I just felt like no one was good enough for him in their eyes and his previous relationships were short and didn't last over 2 years, I must have done something right because we have been married for over forty years and have 13 grandkids and 6 great grands, so regardless of what others think you still can maintain a loving relationship but it does help to get that family support. My daughter is in an interracial relationship & the bf's family are passive-aggressive racists. There ARE times though when they may as well wear the confederate flag & those times are becoming more frequent as they see the relationship still going strong While Duana & Curtis are and have been patient - I am NOT especially when my daughter calls upset trying to turn the other cheek. Hey! Duana. I haven't been able to post comments due to work. I've been a subscriber ( number 7 LOL) very early on. I think it depends on several factors, but the main one is if the man stands up and doesn't allow his family to mistreat or disrespect you. In addition, a man who thinks for himself and not a Mama's Boy. Many times Mom's treat their sons as if they're their man even sister's. Curtis mentioned about not saying hurtful words that can't be taken back. My ex Mom and sister said many hurtful words that indefinitely destroyed the relationship and they no longer have a relationship with me nor their niece or granddaughter ( she's sees them during holidays) due to their actions she unfortunately seen and experienced to the point she needed counseling. My ex admitted he should've never allowed them to become that comfortable. Personally, I will never let them back in in anyway. I have to keep my sanity and peace of mind and for our daughter, too. I, also personally can't be friends/continue to be around those who were wishing for the demise of my relationship. Thankfully, she's loved, happy and a great child with other family.

I will never understand this conflict when the son of the family prepares to start his own family. No one wanted you to be happy & have your own family? My cousin was in a feud for 25+ years with her mother-in law. A co-worker wanted her oldest son to be married so bad, but she also had the "Perfect" person for him. So of course he married the complete opposite, and now everything that happens is "Her fault", like the son lost all his good common sense when he met & married this woman.
