Start with a generous amount of olive oil, sliced garlic and chili flakes. Cook on low heat so the garlic and chilis infuse the oil with flavor, but won’t burn. Then add in jarred or canned tomatoes (San Marzano are the best in my opinion), salt, pepper and simmer on medium high heat until the tomatoes soften and you can squash them. Lastly add chopped basil and toss in pasta to finish cooking in the sauce. Serve with grated Parmesan

When I was 10 Mum had a major operation and wasn't able to do much of anything for herself or around the house for a while in the early weeks of her recovery. No one even discussed with me prior that taking care of Mum and doing all the housework would land on my shoulders because I was the only other one with a vagina. It was simply expected of me, and it went completely unthanked and not even respected. The least anyone could do is pick up after themselves and not completely disrespect my efforts to clean and keep things tidy and organised, but they couldn't even do that. It was a rude awakening which left a deep impression on me about what to expect from marriage and family. So I totally understand why anyone who has had a similar experience would reject and avoid whatever task it was that was unfairly made their responsibility.

Oooh. I’m not sure about all these stories. Perhaps I had a more positive experience. Maybes because we were two sisters. And we were made to do both indoor and outdoor chores. Though as the elder, I did some stuff for my sister. But we had a system. She cleans. I do everything else. I did want to learn how to cook. Made my first caldo de fideo at 8. I asked to be taught. And with Mexican parents too, I wanted to know how to cook my mom’s cooking. Now I want to ask her to teach me to make pozole. Maybe it’s because of my inner duty to know how to pass the knowledge down. Ah well. I was always like that. Needing to honor my parents and elders in my life. And now I tell my sister to just ask mom how to make something because that is what I did. I knew more at 12 than she knows today. She still sometimes call me whenever she is cooking for steps. Like, obviously you should cook the onions then the tomatoes! But I also blame myself for not taking the responsibility myself of actually getting her to be taught, instead of doing all the cooking myself. Yeah so I never understood why someone would not want to do any of that. Maybe the pressure? Necessity? Maybe because I like the feeling of welcoming my mom (dad comes home some hours later) home from work during my school holidays with a cleaned house and a warm meal ready to eat. I did loathe chores for a brief bit but because I was a kid. Cleaning is still my bane. My sister always criticizes the way I clean a kitchen, in return. And nowadays I am always weirded out by those mentioning not knowing how to do stuff like laundry, ironing, cooking, or stuff. Especially intentionally. Especially never asking for lessons. Still need to ask my dad to start the lawnmower, though.

Where I come from, dishwashers in homes aren't the norm so on any given day you'll def find a dish (or more! Lol) in my sink because I HATE doing dishes 😅
@BankruptMonkey
Жыл бұрын
If you're interested, you might be able to buy a countertop dishwasher where you live (I know some rural places and certain countries can't ship most things). You don't have to plumb the new models at all, you just fill the reservoir like a water kettle and let the drain tube rest in the sink, then you can stick it all in a cabinet when you're done. I hate washing dishes so much I'd be willing to sacrifice a little space. If you want a bigger unit you can get a portable dishwasher. The size varies but you can get medium ones or ones as big as the largest built in dishwashers. They are good for bigger loads of dishes, and you just screw a temporary fitting on your sink faucet while it runs then unscrew it and roll the whole thing away (probably in a closet). They are bigger and won't fit in some homes, like a studio apartment.

Never EVER think that you are the worst cook because you were feeding your family and yourself with food. This looks delicious and if your family says otherwise on any cooking, don't think about it and think about your current achievements

If anyone is young and hasnt cooked anything, the best advice I can give is to make eggs. Start with breakfast foods and work your way up because breakfast is so easy. If you know how to make scrambled eggs, you can make fried eggs and if you can do that you can make pancakes. Once you do that frying pans in general dont seem like much of a hassle anymore and cooking opens up to you.

It's relatable. I'm the worst at math in my family and outside I'm like a genius, it's just my family are more geniuses than me. 😂

I remembered back in the day when the food network program come me and a few of my sibling used to sat down and watch how everything was made in the kitchen, we didn’t get to learn much about cooking since we were all young but eventually I started to do it myself. Thank you for sharing this recipe 🙏

This is veeeeery similar to the "Scarpariello" that we have in Campania (read Naples, Italy). It's phenomenal! A little tip! Drizzle juuust a bit of olive oil before serving with Parmesan, when uncooked it adds way more flavour. :)

The “cooking only because of necessity” literally be me, Mom forced me to learn the basics out of a fear of me starving when I moved out, but the motivation ain’t there unless there’s literally no one else to do it for me. 🤣
