I constantly get the question; how did you get started in Scouting? Quite literally I grew up in it and never knew anything different. My father was a Professional Scouter so naturally, I was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and an Explorer when I was growing up. My father was climbing the ladder of Scouting which required us to move every two or three years; very similar to a military child, making many friends all over the country. My father was an amazing Scouter and as a family, we lived mainly in the northeastern United States. This Father's Day I hope this episode answers the question of how I got started in Scouting.

🔑 Show Notes:
Often I get the question of how I got into Scouting. Most of the time I say “I was born into it.” Just like anyone it begins with my father.
Born on April 30 1937, without a name in Bell Holler WV.
Growing up as an Appalachian pore boy. Friens and his Family called him Jesse James. Living in a time when not many prospects were not criminals.
Scouting was the one thing he could get into without any cost to his mother. He could raise the money himself and the cost was very low. It also removed him from the bad environment.
Working at Scout camp over the summer he decided to become a professional Scouter. This requires a bachelor's degree in humanities and leaving home.
Jesse Jame Richards finalized his name on the documents when inrolling at Salum College.
Jesse fell in love with my mother in college.
Scouting had my father climbing the ladder. Moving and transferring every few years.
My brother was born in Pitsburg PA and I was born in Paducah KY.
Many family vacations often in Florida and West Virginia.
Mom’s folks' snow-bird Michigan to Florida.
Camping at Tom's “fishing camp” on the New River in WV.
My dad and I were night owls staying up late talking.
Working the way up the ladder he started on a path to National. I moved with the family from Boston to Chicago.
That’s where I graduated, moved out, started a career, and got married. My Mom & Dad moved back east to New York City.
My wife and I moved to Florida and had our son in Orlando.
My father passed away from cancer on May 4, 1990.
My father taught me to live by the Scout Oath & Law.
My father taught me to be grateful to everyone for everything.
My father taught me to be happy and try to help others be happy.
🎈 Scouter's Joke of the Week: Why should you never mention the number 288? It’s two gross.
