Thank you! I'm so in love with that pencil case. I have tried to find another one like it but have never been able to anywhere. When I bought it, I had no idea what I'd ever put in it, but bought it anyway because I fell in love with it. It stands out and shines much more than shows on video. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

What pencil case do you keep your inktense pencils in? I want to be able to take pencils on trip without taking tin. I doubt the pencils would survive in tin in a suitcase.

I know how you feel ,but if it’s any help I am very new to adult colouring and even though I make a lot of mistakes with my backgrounds I stay positive and work towards improving my technique. I am going to try buying some books with smaller pages so that it’s not such a large area to work on and hopefully that will help, maybe that might be useful for you as well? 😊

Thank you for sharing those beautiful ideas! I was trying to look for good fixatives to use for my pastel backgrounds since this is the medium I use the most. I could never attempt a pencil background, I just don't understand how other artists have the stamina to do it; especially if it's a double-page spread from one of Johanna's books if I did attempt that my hand would be aching XD. I just have a question, when I spray the fixative, what happens if I accidentally sprayed it on my coloured pencil areas? I'm kind of nervous to try it on my pages. Should I spray it only on areas with pastel on it?
@PamelasPassionforPencils

It’s okay to spray over your colored pencils too. It will just set it. You can use it over the entire colored pages. I would only use it outside and then let your page dry. It smells horrible.
@jicolourist

Make sure to spray lightly. Any be careful if you have watercolour mediums on the page. Spraying over colour pencil is fine, It helps stop transfer of pencil to other pages too which is great.

Hello Pamela. I just found you a couple of weeks ago and have been on a binge watching your videos. And yes, I did subscribe. They are great and informative. I am new to adult coloring, and I want to learn how to do backgrounds. I have been leaving them white, and the pages look so naked. I will be watching your whole background Playlist. 😊 Thanks for sharing your gifts.

Thanks soooooo much for all the info---I have wondered for ages just how in the world you and other artists produced such great backgrounds. And now I know!! Thank you! So.........I moved down your list with great gusto and purchased the Mungyo pastels, the Faber Castell Gelato Pastels, the Fixative, some sponge applicators--and a Hanna Karlzon coloring book!! The Jane Hankins 2 adorable books would have made me very happy, too---but they are unavailable and require you filling out a form with information , so they can contact you. It's all very vague?? But--anyway---I am now so very excited at the thought of diving into the skies and other backgrounds! I think they will make a real difference in giving my drawings that 'final finish!' I am about to look into your Facebook tutorials, as well! Thanks again for all you do to help us beginners move on!! Lynn in NYC

The Mungyo look like my level at the moment. Have you ever used oil pastels or are they just like crayons?

I only use chalk pastels for large area backgrounds. I can’t afford anything else. I used hairspray as a fixative originally, which worked fine but haven’t bothered with fixing backgrounds recently and haven’t had any problems with it coming off or moving around.

QUESTION Thanks for sharing your talent. I have a question about the link to the paper you prefer. The link automatically opens to 80# but there are different weights. Is the 80# paper what you prefer?
@PamelasPassionforPencils

If you’re referring to the Springhill paper, then yes it’s the 80 pound paper that I prefer. If you like paper that is a little less toothy and don’t like to spend as much time layering, then I would go with the 67 lb.

You'll probably curse me for making you want the PanPastels even more, but they are a completely different medium from "chalk" pastels because they seem to contain some kind of binder! I have done drawings on Strathmore Toned Gray paper where I really worked black PanPastel into the paper and then used Prismacolors over them without any fixing at all! This would not be possible without a binding agent. And to add to the mystery: PanPastels kind of blend together with Polychromos and Pablos... The company is very secretive about what makes them have all these qualities. Where are the artists with science oriented day jobs when you need them? :D Another unique quality is that they can be mixed right in the pan. I simply swipe across multiple pans, mix the color on a piece of printer paper and if it's the color I wanted I go to apply it. You absolutely do not need an abundance of colors because they mix so well. Do yourself a favor and try them!
