Great information, thank you . What setup would you recommend I use when I travel over rough Death Valley roads to get smooth video from my car ?

You trying to get car-to-car footage? Go with a Ronin RS3 Pro on a Tilta Hydra.

What are your thoughts on the movi pro vs the rs2 rigged out specifically for a chase car
@joenicklo

The MoVI is on a whole new level compared to the RS2. Much more room to grow with the setup with it. RS2 is nice and compact but I’m not sure I’d consider it fair comparing a $1000 pistol grip gimbal to a $6000 professional level gimbal like the MoVI.

Fully agree with him on the 24-70! Been using the Sigma for almost 2 years of automotive photography and videography and it’s never come off my a7iii! Perfect for weddings too which I’ve now gone into!👏🏻

Ahhh gear ! I used to love buying up piles and piles and piles of kit 👀. Then two things happened which caused me to switch my gear loving paradigm of thinking - I got older, and I got fatigued shleping around all the extra bits and pieces I needed to various shoots, as I'm pretty much a one man band shooter, except I hire extra help on big contracts. That Movi gymbal, although super nice, is just too much kit for me to be lugging around with me to get maybe one or two shots at most. I have since grown greatly interested in camera gear that encompases two or three pieces of gear into one unit. A good example of this is the new DJI Ronan 4D. The idea of being able to lug around one device that is a gymbal, a full frame camera, and capable of recording good in-camera audio packed neatly into one small case intrigues me. Before I will go for the Movi gymbal setup, I'd rather use a Ronan 4D hanging from a A Flycam Flowline suspension vest. Nowardays it's all about saving my lower back and using as little gear as possible.

I’ve started simplifying things a bit. Still wouldn’t touch the ronin 4D. I’ve been incredibly underwhelmed with what I’ve seen out of that camera.

@@joenicklo Really ? I'm surprised to hear anyone comment on the image being of underwhelming quality. (??) I would like to see some footage from the much advertised 8K version which is supposed to now be available for comparison with the original 6K full frame sensor.

From what I’ve seen on KZitem, it isn’t impressive. Has a very digital look. Polar opposite of what I want for my work.

@@joenicklo If you have any links to the 8K resolution version of the 4D, then by all means list them here, as I'd like to evaluate some footage shot on their new sensor version.

I'm going to go with my Ninja V monitor. The cost savings using SSDs vs SD cards, and the monitoring features it has, it's a no brainer. Plus the prores codec edits so much smoother compared to most in camera codecs. I love my nucleus nano too! I'd like to pick up a one of the hollyland video transmitters at some point so I can have someone else pulling focus.

The Zoom Hn4 is an amazing piece of equipment. I also use a tascam d60 s2 for the off chance where the recorder has to be USB powered. My next audio purchase might just be a zoom f6!

I'm going to try very hard to film something for my Rigwheels setup soon. It's really hard to pull it off since I'm usually focused so much on filming for the client but maybe for a personal project I can get some good b-roll and explanation in.

Another great video. Discovered all kinds of cool gear in this one 👍 I'd be interested in seeing your other car rigging gear. I'm thinking about a Camtree Gripper G-51 as a starter suction mount for my A7SIII and maybe even my RSC2.

So, I own the Gripper G-51 and I can tell you...I don’t like it, at all. I don’t recommend it. It wasn’t a total loss since I ended up repurposing the suction cups from the kit.

@@joenicklo Thank you for the kind reply. I was looking at a used one and I think the design may have changed at some point. Do the friction arms have problems staying in position or is there something else you don't like about it?

I got a ton of vibration. If you’re hard mounting and there’s not triangulation, you get vibration. If you’re gimbal mounting and you don’t have a vibration isolator...vibration.
