I love the original pit, the athletic 50lb dog I grew up with but the 💩 they got out now is an embarrassment to the original. The Pits I had growing up did the same thing the Malinois do now, jump 12 feet fences, hang from rope, run 5 miles with me every morning when I boxed.

@@Calvinmob681 funny because MY rotties best friend is a 54 pound pitbull terrier, her name is Ivy gives my Rottweiler lots of exercise. They've gotten into minor tussels more growling and wrestling each other all over the place. This little thing compared to my big female rottweiler can do everything at a much higher level. She's a sweetheart and super beautiful.

Love from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada! Thank you for starting to cover Livestock Guardian Dog breeds (LGDs). We have had GSDs, Dobermans and even a Bully Kutta in the past, but now we have a Hungarian Kuvasz and we are surely going to have more of this breed. Kuvaszok (plural) are great guard dogs that guard livestock, people, and property, are beautiful, and not intimidating from their looks. We basically wanted a dog that could act as a deterrent to large carnivores that we meet during backcountry camping and hiking. However, we love all dog breeds and a good thing to note is that increasingly, we are seeing people having dog breeds that used to be the norm before 90s - bull mastiffs, Dobermans, Rottweilers, GSDs, Great Pyrenees, German short haired pointers, etc. Now we are also meeting more of cane corso, American bull dogs, Dogo Argentino, Samoyed, etc. too.

I’ve rescued 4 Great Danes in my lifetime. One female/3 Males. All great companions and loved them, but the Vet bills were enormous. I currently have had an AmStaff for 12 years now. She is very obedient, easy to train, and loving. Much more than the Great Danes. And the Vet bills are much lower. I would easily rescue another AmStaff. I only rescue. I’m very disciplined myself and once was a ranch owner who had livestock, so I can read animals pretty well. So, no dog is too much a challenge for me to train. If I had my druthers, I’d rescue them all.

Ironically it was a Rottweiler that gave me a fear of dogs. I was chased by two of them as a teenager. My childhood friend owned them & they hopped the fence while my sister & I were walking from the store. Fast forward to today & being a dog mom to a lovely boxer, I'm grateful my partner & I chose this breed. Certainly helped with my fear of dogs overall, but also this breed is perfect for us & our lifestyle. So that's my short list, a Boxer is my fav 🐶

@@djhudson007 well said. However, there is something called selective breeding and certain traits are bred into dogs. A GSD or Rottie is more potective then a greyhound would be you know what I'm saying? Both dogs but selective breeding causes selective traits to be inherited. Now, I'm not scared of any dog especially because I prefer the protective dominant breeds, but I also respect the dogs for who they are and their heritage.. but a well-trained GSD or Rottie should not be aggressive unless threatened

I love my Bullmastiff! I’ve had other giant breeds before but I find the Bullmastiff the easiest to live with. First, he doesn’t bark. Second, he’s affectionate & always stays pretty close to me, but he’s not in my face all day demanding my attention. Third, he has a goofy & adorable fun personality. He’s also the most chill, laidback friendly dog you’ve ever met. Fourth, he’s a fearless protector when we are being attacked without showing any aggressive tendencies when he’s not being actually attacked. He just ignores dogs that are tethered or behind fences no matter how aggressive they act. The biggest drawback? He rarely barks, so he’s not going to scare off potential burglars before they enter my home. He doesn’t even bark if you ring the doorbell. But if someone did break in, he’d be right there to “welcome” them. 😉🤣

Great list. I've been a subscriber of your channel for a long time and we have even spoke when you did live call ins in the past. We like most of the same breeds and have a similar attitude about our dogs. One of the dogs I have never interacted with in depth are livestock guardian dogs and to hear you talk about them piques my interest. Glad to hear you drop some facts about the Akita. I had an Akita about 30 years ago and back then the "discussion" over the "American" type and the "Japanese" type was insane. You are right, if you go back prior to WWll, the Japanese Akita was much more like the current American Akita. I've been to Japan years ago and the older breeders back then still favored the bigger, American style Akitas. So glad to see the Doberman on this list. I remember when you weren't a big Doberman fan but after a little investigating you found out just how great a well bred, working Doberman really is. Brains, Brawn and Beauty, no other dog meets all the criteria. I am pro docking and cropping and those things were done for legitimate working purposes and they still serve those purposes for a working dog. We all have our favorites and the Rotti is one of my favorites as well. Stay safe. ✌️

My breed since the 70s has been the Great Dane - but as I age, I see the benefits of having a dog that I can safely take to any dog park. Most of my Danes have been super sweet, but smaller dogs get intimidated by them - which is understandable. When they want to play, smaller dogs want nothing to do with them because of their size. This causes me to have to be on guard with my dog as opposed to just chilling with the other pet parents. It will difficult to live without a GD, but if I do, I'm thinking a Visla - but I'd need to know a lot more about them - but I hear they are velcro-like, like the GD. :-)

@@blujeans9462 basically for a Vizsla to be what you expect it to be, and that is a velcro dog, just like other working dogs you need a lot of time, knowledge and patience. They are half as smart as my GSDs but the will to please is the same if not bigger. The thing about Vizslas that is tricky is that they are extremely sensitive. In 18years of owning them, there are just a hand full of times that I had to slap their buttocks, usually from running into traffic. And when I do it you can see their world crumble, unlike gsd who just shakes it off. Hard command does the job for Vs, but that's 100s of hours spent on training every single thing in their life. It's easy to make Vizslas aggressive because they are so soft. They are definitely not for casual owners. They are great to work, play and cuddle with. If there is anything specific that I can help you with please let me know.

@@ryanthompson8029 yes I agree. If you want to working line you have to be prepared to give the dog the outlet it needs. But, a good working line dog should also have a good off switch which is why they're much better suited for home and personal protection dogs then a Malinois. That said, I still think the West German show lines have deviated Too Much from the standard of the German Shepherd. They are too big, they have too short of legs and they need to all have straight backs not some not most, but ALL. The German Shepherd in general, working line or show line should be an agile dog capable of working all day. The purpose of show is to exhibit the dog and display the dog and it should be reflective of its abilities. If that's the purpose, then why have they deviated so much from what the working line dogs look like? The show line dogs do not have the same agility. If you want to breed a lower Drive dog and show lines fine, but they should still be as courageous and have the same nerves as a working line and they should definitely still have the same agility. That short back-end is a problem I see too much disparity in the show lines and not disparity in the working lines.

Great video. I appreciate that animal health is something you weigh heavily across your list. Our lists have a lot of similarities in traits and breeds. We live on the NE Atlantic coast of Maine so our weather adds a few longer hair dogs to the list. We currently have a 11 week old Great Pyrenees/ Anatolian Shepherd that we added to our Saint Bernard and rat terrier family. In this video you could have been describing our puppy and his parents. Both around 140 pounds , currently work as LGD protecting goats, total Velcro dog and a big teddy bear too. His parents are about as big as dogs can get and still be the super athletes they were meant to be. He will basically be a more loyal, more protective, more athletic version of our Saint Bernard. Love the channel. I find that most other dog channels suck or are made for children. I wish you had more competition on KZitem for this genre but I have looked and you do not. Keep up the great work.

The azawakh is by far my top choice for my life, they’re dignified and elegant, they have endless endurance yet as a sight hound they can also sleep all day, they’re not interested in making new friends and are reserved with strangers, but are deeply affectionate with their people. they’re inseparable from their owners and bond for life. They’re one of the easiest sight hounds to train and have a more reliable recall than most sight hounds as they value their owners over the prey at hand. They’re unique and worth knowing about!

4. Bullmastiff 3. Mastiff 2. Cane Corso 1. Bulldog.
Strong dog breeds on the list you put the Malinois above a working line German Shepherd? I love Mals and I've owned them, but I wouldn't place them above a working line German Shepherd. Maybe above a show line or pet line German Shepherd but not a working line. But the same goes for show line Malinois, not great PPD dogs.. I just find it interesting because you put a lot of serious dogs on your list and I definitely know that the working line German Shepherd is a much more serious dog then the Malinois

Standard Dachshund is my number 1. I am thinking about another dog now and looking at different breeds but I am still leaning heavily towards the dachshunds. I am surprised you have so many heavily coated dogs on your list this time but not surprised you still have the Rottweiler on top! Roscoe for the win

Nice list. I expected the Rottie to be his #1 but I'm surprised the Kangal was so high on the list, even though I have 3 1/2 of them (one is a Kangal/Great Pyr mix) and they're my #1. Most people just don't know the Kangal, or have never been around one even if they know the breed.
