Great video and i like your examples you show of your work relating to the lens, i love wide angle shooting and i bought the fuji 10-24mm instead of the 16mm 1.4 and thought the 10-24mm has it covered, but how wrong was i when i bought the 16mm 1.4 this year!! 16mm 1.4 pushes you to use your imagination to compose a good shot i tend to shoot low down when shooting portraits and keep the people in the middle of the frame to avoid distortion, this lens is so versatile that there are unlimited ways of creativity to getting a great shot with this 16mm just got to experiment and use your imagination and look at different angles to get your shot and now this lens is permanently glued to one of my fuji bodies!!

Hmmm been saving for that sweet sweet 80mm macro for food photography, I may have just been swayed. The 16mm 1.4 is on my bucket list anyway, it's cheaper and will probably realistically serve my burger photo needs (I run a burger app here in Australia, don't judge me too hard :))

Fenix Tech for larger food, the 16mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, and even the 90mm f2 can all focus very close and serve double duty cause Of their large aperture. Heck I even use the 56 1.2 wirh an extension tube for my macro ring shots on the wedding day. Perhaps the 80mm macro is good, but I’ve tried my best to avoid buying a lens with just one real use .

Lemme guess...you spend time out at the Legion Of Honor. There's some boy's school east off 101 in Marin about 15 minutes north of the bridge on a long narrow road and missable exit that has rows of Eucalyptus trees and old architecture that's also popular for wedding stuff...the kind of shoot where you take the couple there all dressed up before the wedding, even one of their dogs...I know, I printed that stuff for 15 years at a custom lab in S.F. It does make the creative juices flowing and the bokeh is awesome! You like shooting with a wide like the 16 but with the 3/2 ratio? I think it's the smart way to go. Gives you the best part of the lens and cuts edge distortion. I look at the astonishing film, The Cranes Are Flying, (there's a collage of scenes on one KZitem) which has a ratio of 1/1.37, I think, and marvel at all those swooping camera moves all in focus, from 1961. Then it all makes sense. The format is a win win. Early television dramas, like Serling's The Comedian has all kinds of camera and subject movement, but never messes up. And it was live. And that format on TV was even less wide. And of course, you're shooting for prints too.

It's also amazing for astrophotography... it resolves better than the Rokinon 12mm f2, with less noise and more clarity, and the coma 'issue' has been overblown.

@@Reggiebphoto I think it's the slight distortion/lack of sharpness of the stars in the corners, but... shooting wide open for astro, it's prob going to be a bit of an issue with fast primes

I know that's a very common question , but What you recommand for a jack of all trades lens ? I'm really torn about 16 1.4 and the 23 1.4 ; i already have 50 mm and a 16 55 2.8 zoom. I'm really concern about the weight and I'm willing to be very discreet. I would like to do some street photos with people, capturing mood and emotions arounds.

I've been too challenged by the 16mm f1.4! I want to take your advice, especially seeing your incredible 16mm pics on Fuji-X Pro Photographers page, however after a 6-month trial, found it just to be too much work/experimentation. However - and even though it may not make sense, I really like Fuji's 18mm focal perspective. So I'm ordering the 18mm f1.4 and will hopefully gain some of the positives over the f2 version. But I think I'm at the same point in my craft: the 23mm perspective is getting too easy and boring, and I want the extra ooomph. Regardless - thank you for your perspective!

Hi Reggie and thank you very much for your amazing content! Really inspiring! I've watched this video and your video about the 18mm f2. I'm a street and wedding photographer and about to attempt a wide angle lens for the fuji system that matches those 2 styles (even if I shoot wedding in candid style). Which lens would you recommend ? I like the compactness of the 18mm that allows more to be "low profile", on the other the f1.4 of the 16mm is really attractive... Thank you!

An excellent and authoritative roundup. I've personally moved away from wide primes after many years - I developed an anti-distortion prejudice - but you've got some great instances here where this lens was clearly the perfect tool for the job. Thanks Reggie!

Hey man! I would advise you to raise the contrast and saturation in your A-roll footage just a bit. Now, it feels like your skin tones are muted and a little bit too unsaturated, which looks a bit lifeless to me. Gorgeous pictures by the way!
