My favorite techniques for being in the mount on higher belts is thanking them for the opportunity to get there in the first place, and politely asking them to teach me the technique they have just used to sweep me from there effortlessly because learning mount escapes could be useful to me.

I personally don't think it's never good. It's trying to bait an improbable reaction. There's sweeps to go for with all their weight on one side that don't require you to reach across and give them what they want.

I dunno. I think Armbar is so much safer to do then a choke. Peoples windpipes are very squeeshy, and much easier to damage then an arm. Usually you have more time to tap to an arm bar.

Just go sign up for Gracie Combatives if you're looking for that kind of teaching...better...just join an actual class, but it is expensive, so if that's the barrier I totally get it....but there's a TON on KZitem you could learn from but Gracie Combatives is a very effective foundation for DIY foundation building.

I can tell you don't train any combat sports and likely never been in a real world altercation. Being on the ground on your back it is very difficult to put any power into your punches, even a big puncher would only be able to generate a small amount of force.

No one is punching anyone in BJJ tournaments.....if they actually want to compete. The sport version WILL help with the real world combat/hand to hand stuff. Walk before you run son.....walk before you run.

I can’t exaggerate how much I wish I hadn’t packed on as much muscle as I have over the last 20+ years. I love body triangles more than ANYTHING in jiujitsu and there are basically 0 people under 6’6 in my weight class that I can body triangle with these short for my weight class legs…

BJJ is a very special martial art. ot actually takes some of the step by step martial approach which most combat fighters ridicule, but then trains it and applies it in competition. Not sure any other martial art can achieve this level of strategy and leading a response in actual fights.
