As a Brit I’m guessing Nicks baking is a reference to ‘the great British bake off’ which is a huge baking show in the uk that’s basically the most popular show in the country so of course they make the British character obsessed with baking bc they always make the British characters extremely stereotypical - ig so it’s relatable 😂

So here's the thing with Finn, I think there's still a possibility that he might have some other neurodivergence that doesn't manifest in social anxiety, in which case he wouldn't seem to care about not picking up on social cues. And if it doesn't bother him that would be why it's never mentioned in talking heads. Since Jude's dyslexia actively interferes with her interactions on the show that's my guess as to why it's brought up. But I think you did a really good job (re)explaining your though process from last week's video. On a related side note one of my favorite character headcanons is that Richelle is autistic, which is why she's so against change and why she's one of the few characters we see really struggle to connect with other people (I'm not saying neurotypical people can't also struggle with this but as an autistic person I just relate to her a lot).

I think the earlier seasons led up to the competitions for longer and you saw the dances come together and saw them being rehearsed more, in the newer seasons, you don’t see any of the dances until the competitions. I prefer the lead up with the dances in the earlier seasons more. Do you agree or disagree??
@BrittanyRaymondOfficial
Жыл бұрын
I agree. More opportunity to see the challenges they face in the routine and then when it's time to perform you can be like the teacher, knowing the sections that don't normally work, but hoping they do. It's much more satisfying to watch the routines as though you're a part of them somehow, rather than just an audience member.

@@BrittanyRaymondOfficial That’s what I thought. It’s was always interesting seeing the development of the routines and the challenges they deal with. The newer seasons don’t incorporate as much dance as they did in the earlier seasons which confuses me slightly.

As someone who preferred seeing your initial reactions to key moments, I think you’ve made a good compromise. The new combined format of reaction and commentary is a good method of balancing both. I really enjoy this episode especially for seeing Kenzie and Cleo’s dilemmas. One of my criticisms for Season 7 is that they didn’t really use Kenzie or give her any storylines but now we’re finally getting an insight of what Kenzie wants which I love to see. This is indeed the first time we find out that Cleo can sing and it’s a pleasant surprise because she sounds so good. She’s a great singer. I love how even Piper, Amy and Lily were surprised at her singing talents. Cleo in general has really developed well in this season so far as she went from being manipulative and scheming in Season 7 to now being more relaxed and comfortable with herself. I think her relationship with Jude has really helped her blossom even more. So nice to hear that you met Dani too. Your discussion at 5:52-8:25 about the missed potential of integrating the BTS crew into the story for Step Inside is really fascinating and something that could definitely be could be worth exploring more. Obviously there was Dancemania in Season 7 but that was mainly from an outside source with intentional scripting for the show they were participating on and there was missed potential with that too. As you mentioned, there was a natural and sort of authentic feel with the first season because of how new and experimental it was. And you’re right on how they’re still able to recreate that magic in small doses with new characters. I especially like that you mentioned the Izzy and Daisy one at 31:56 because that was one my favourite talking head moments too. Felt so natural and fun due to it most likely being non scripted. We even had some previous ones with Riley, James and Amanda in Season 4 when they end up interacting with characters or hidden crew behind the scenes (mainly with Amanda’s talking head being interrupted by a character from The Lost and Found series and Riley being interrupted by James with the promise ring scene). It would be nice to see more of that as I really feel like the mockuemntary feel of the show was a big highlight of the first season. But you also make a good point in how scheduling and filming is differently handled compared to how it was years ago. My question directly ties into this but are there any missed opportunities that you wish The Next Step explored more whether that be in terms of characters, development, storylines, issues or relatable situations in general? You can refer to any season by the way. And do you feel this way with any other series or shows that you watch too? You mentioned that you dislike when tension between characters are defused too quickly (like the Cleo and Jude situation) and I agree. They are often not given enough time to properly cook or settle. I really liked that Kenzie and Richelle scene at the end purely because of the tension and Richelle walked away while still being mad at Kenzie for her decision to choose Nationals which keeps the tension lingering as their relationship is now on a thread. I also wish there would be some physical fights during the really tense situations where characters are up in each other’s faces but that mostly leads to just dance battles lol. That’s something that I also feel like is a bit of missed potential with the show. Shad’s singing voice is absolutely beautiful. The Symmetry Of is a great song.

what you said in the "my thoughts on the show" section was so interesting. I think it would be awesome to see them incorporate the camera men, producers or even to just acknowledge that theyre being filmed. The only times theyve ever really acknowledged the cameras is when james "proposed" to Riley and since then there hasnt really been anything. but after season 7 i feel like its too late becuase a big plot in that season was how they had never been on camera before. in season 1 i really liked how sometimes the camera was shaky or not in focus which really made it feel like a documentary. but now in the later seasons, even season 2 onwards tbh, the documentary style is kinda lost and we only have the talking heads. anyways i love these videos and love your predictions and ideas for alternate plotlines. 💕

I loved this episode too! and I have to tend to agree with your thoughts about the earlier seasons, as it felt a little more authentic and traditional to me in comparison to later seasons where it felt a little more ‘scripted’ at times. I much prefer the new format of blending in live reactions with thoughts, it’s a good balance, because a lot of us have watched the season, so watching the reactions are more intriguing than the reviews, but I definitely enjoyed this format a lot more. also can we just appreciate how much effort you put into these reactions like the editing, the structure and the entire content sharing is sooo amazingly done, like you’re such an icon and it really shows the love you have for TNS and us fans ❤ a question from me is, what did you think about having lost and found (the spin off show) as another sequel in a way to the next step, and do you think they could have carried on with that format, or having the main show but still having the spin off. thx ☺️

As for wether Finn is neurodivergent or not, I believe the writers are leaving it up for interpretation, as they have tended to do with several characters in the past. While they have outright said that Jude is neurodivergent, there has been many cases in the past where characters clearly were aswell, but it wasn’t explicitly said. Some examples being West, who many people see as having ADHD due to his high amount of energy, and his inability to focus on just one conversation concept at once, just to say a few things. There are also both Noah and Richelle, who show some traits of being autistic. With Noah, especially in season 3, being nervous in social situations, and even more so with more people, and the fact his confidence in his own dance abilities is not the best, again, with many other traits that I do not have the space to list out here. As for Richelle, as many people have said, she struggles with empathy and picking up on social cues, and especially the fact that she hates when plans are changed and doesn’t know how to cope.

In my head, Finn might not have social anxiety and could be autistic. This could be why he misses social cues but doesn't care and it doesn't bother him. For me, an autistic person, I miss social cues alot but don't really notice I did until someone else mentions it, and it doesn't bother me because I just don't notice. This is just my opinion as I see alot of my autistic traits in Finn. (and also this would explain, in the last season, why Finn is so bad at remebering things and Piper had to set alarms on his phone for him. I set alarms on my phone all the time to remember things.)

When Richelle said her idea about the show everyone smiled, nod and said yes, I think she's in her right to think everyone wants to do it, she didn't assumed, they accepted. If someone didn't want to accept but still smiled, said yes and started the auditions then that's their thing, not Richelle's, it's them being quiet about what they want and pretending they want someone else even when there's nothing in the middle keeping them from saying what they actually want, they don't need to be asked if they want to do what they already said they would, so I don't see how that would be Richelle assuming everyone wants the same than her with no question nor space for choices nor attention to what they feel bc she wants the whole control bc she's the captain or something. Majority of them already are young adults (if not about to be), they're not kids to need to be asked to say how they feel, they can just say it and if they decide to hide that and agree with the idea it is presented to them then that's not the problem of the person who gave the idea, but from the one who didn't have the confidence to say how they really feel about it and tried to go along with it. Like, no one would say something, see the other person be happy, agree and do everything to get it but magically think they didn't accept bc they wanted to and maybe didn't want it so have to ask them again, the other person just should say what they want and if they have their motives to not do it yet, that's fine, but it's their thing, not the other person's.

The thing about Cleo's position and reaction to being offered the second alternate spot is, Nick said that she was 'the last to be cut off' meaning that if they had chosen to have 12 dancers (2 alternates) from the start, Cleo would still be part of the team and have a chance to not be the alternate. That, of course, would not leave space for Kenzie to waltz in and become dance captain witch is an important plot point, but it's also an interesting plot hole - if I remember correctly, there were 2 alternates in the earlier seasons, so why did Nick and Michell decide to make it only one this time? (and also they could've taken the chance to change their minds and make it 12 so that Cleo can be on the team but that would probably be unfair and biased)

So I have thoughts on Kenzie getting to join the nationals team without even auditioning. In season 2 they also did the challenge and from that they got the 12 dancers for the nationals team (they hadn't picked the alternates yet but point is they had 12 dancers). When they do the challenge in season 8 they only picked 10 dancers for the nationals team (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). Michelle helped Nick pick those 10 so how does she not mention they need 10 plus 2 alternates so 12 total. It was even her suggestion to do the challenge. Surly Cleo should have mad the cut. This just goes to show how Nick isn't a good Studio Head. Cleo doesn't make it when IMO she should have as they should have gotten the 10 plus 2 alternates from the challenge and Kenzie gets to be Dance Captain despite not auditioning with the others. How is that fair? Suppose they had gotten the 12 dancers from the challenge would Kenzie still have been made Dance Captain or would Nick have said sorry we have our 12 nothing I can do? Would Kenzi then have done Step Inside as the soloist? I have more thoughts but will save them for when Brittany gets to those episodes.
