The fire warmed my toes. You found some awesome food. Your tortilla use is what we use all the time. Hope to have your gift soon and be able to bring it to you soon. Miss seeing your smiling face every day. We were going to hike this weekend here in Indiana but Mark says no to hiking in the cold and snow. We had about a foot to shovel in the drive. Love and prayers

I have to say i agree with Paul this is one of the best AT food videos I've seen. I would love to hike the entire AT just to stop at all of the good food. I've had SMoky Mountain Diner, HomePlace (closed now) and in Daleville the Three Little Pigs BBQ (free banana pudding for hikers)

Braids! I must tell you, you could be talking about ANYTHING and I would find it interesting! Lol you could talk about your personal life, not related to hiking as well and I would thoroughly enjoy it. I found you because my husband and I were researching different trails in the gsmnp and now I’m hooked! And that was a year ago 😊 Talk about what YOU want to talk about, because I came for the hiking and I’m staying for the personality!

Your Best of videos are the Best! I have struggled with the diet of the A.T thru hiker. Wondering if eating less processed foods( ingredients you can pronounce) would give better emotional and physical strength for the hike. I’m still researching. You were successful, and you enjoyed yourself and listened to your body. Who can argue with that.Really well done video Braids. Thanks!

Its pretty tough to avoid processed foods on a thru hike. I think getting enough calories is key. I noticed a difference depending on how much i ate on trail.

You can order food from Partnership Shelter also. You are the first person to say store brand zipper bags work ok. Did you bring water to a complete boil or stop short? I tried once a long time ago but a hole melted in the bag.. maybe they have changed... I’ll give them another try. It would be interesting for you to revisit some of the places now. I know when I go on my favorite ‘long’ hike I always had one restaurant I liked going to at the end. Loved it. So I tried doing the trail in reverse and ate there before I hiked ... it was ‘ok.’ I think your hunger makes the food so much better.

Very helpful info for trail angels, something I hope to resume at some point. About your fire, try getting a small squirt gun to have ready to tame an oversize fire. Start by squinting at the edges to slow it down, not drown it. Looks like you have a good screen in front (glass?) and as long as you are burning properly seasoned wood shouldn't be a problem in any case.
@HikingwithBraids

Haha I put too many logs on the fire at once. I'll have to be more careful. ;)
@robertahislop3834

@@HikingwithBraids another option if no squirt gun is handy, and you have the usual fireplace tools is to spread the burning logs out so they aren't helping each other burn. It's quite the balancing act sometimes, getting just the right amount of fire. It looked very welcoming in the video! And warm, which is nice on a cool day as it is today.

try sulfite/sulfur free dried apricots! the sulfured ones upset my stomach too, they add sulfites to keep them brightly colored instead of turning brown as they do naturally. they can be harder to find unsulfured, but bulk bins sometimes have them. for me, i get the same pain from some golden grapes and dried mangoes.

Hello! I am new to your channel and I am hooked! I have a question about your fitness city spork that you had originally to started with and then notices that you switched to a long plastic looking long spoon and wanted to know what was the reason for the switch? I was interested in getting the fitness city spork.
@cielrobinson
3 жыл бұрын
i think a lot of people don't like the plastic waste of all the ziplocs you're gonna end up using for every meal when you want to repackage things. i try to minimize plastic use in everyday life, and all the knowing just how many disposables i'll be using on trail bums me out a bit.
@HikingwithBraids
3 жыл бұрын
There are ways to thru hike and not use as much plastic bags. You can reuse the same bags especially for the snacks or leave everything in their original packaging (although that can get heavy) or you can cook in your stove instead of a plastic bag. On trail I just wanted to be as light as possible but in hindsight I probably would do it a little differently..
@cielrobinson

@@HikingwithBraids that's true, i do plan to eat out of my pot actually, and reuse bags til they're beat. but i feel like even just all the travel size containers, versus full size, and also single serve packages, must add up to a lot. even the amounds of unneccesary plastic packaging often included with gear has surprised me. i'm trying to put this behind me on trail though so i can still enjoy my hikes.
