Love these videos Mr. L. I hope to see a few more, namely with the new Level Lock, Lockly, and Yale entries in the smart lock world !

Your video was fantastic, it was short and simple, quite easy to understand. I think everyone wants an upgrade, nowadays there are many options, for example the new Schlage Encode Plus is amazing, it's reliable and advanced.

Which lock would you recommend for someone who plans to rent some rooms to tenants so they can just use a code and no keys as a homeowner. I really liked your videos

I started about 15 years ago with a gifted Kwikset lever unit that went out in the 1st year. They easily replaced it & that unit failed. I actually started selling these, Kwikset & Schlage, on eBay & Amazon. I upgraded to Schlage's on all my doors and would never go back. I haven't carried a house key in over 8 years.

@Mr. Locksmith You have earlier videos showing how easy the Schlage electronic locks are to unlock by drilling a simple hole. Now you are saying they are the best. What changed?

Yeah...good point... I guess once you whip out a drill most locks are vulnerable though. Sure a quick small hole through thin non hardened steel is easier than drilling out the light the usual way but not that much for most locks... I don't know if Schlage ever put a plate in there to fix this. They should... Still once a drill is part of the equation... most residential locks are going to fail... Maybe that's the attitude here? I agree it's strange not to address it though ...by both the guy and the company...

Question, I like the extra security of a dead bolt, but like the ease of the auto-locking latch bolt Schlage's. Does Schlage make a combo latch-deadbolt unit with one keypad for latch & dead bolts? Our main entry point is the carport door with a Schlage lever unit. When leaving the house to go to the mail box, etc, it's extra safe if a neighbor calls you over & your house is left open. But having that extra dead bolt would be much more secure.

@@24hrMrLocksmith I would really like to see both standard & WI-FI units like that from Schlage. All my units have been standard 9-volt keypad-keyed units. WI-FI units are nice, but battery life was around 3-4 months from what customers said. My 1st 2 standard units, a deadbolt, and a lever lasted over 5 years on the original batteries. The WI-FI control seemed too steep in terms of the cost of time & expense of changing batteries. The new battery pods on the ones you reviewed seem to make battery changing easier. I'm curious about the battery life, about the same 3-4 months?

@@MrTemplefugate I am trying rechargeable batteries with the Encode. I expect only 4-6 months with the Wi-Fi. With the Sense I only get 10-12 months with heavy use. The auto locking feature and the Wi-Fi will greatly reduce battery use. Still the best product on the market this week :-)

I know this probably won't be the most convenient option, but if you are OK with a standalone lock, then the Yale YDM 3109 would work, or if you want to add a biometric reader, then the 4109 is another option

My experience with the BE365 is that the mechanism that engages the lock fails on those all the time. I've replaced dozens this year.

@@24hrMrLocksmith I'm in NC on the coast, it might be due to exposure to salt in the air. I've seen it on exposed locks and non-exposed. I believe the major source of the problem is people being heavy-handed with them and wearing the mechanism down.

@@youtubewatcher4970 What do you mean by "heavy handed?" Are they abusive to the locks? I sold Yale, Kwikset & Schlage. I had maybe 2-3 returns on Schlage's, out of hundreds sold. I quit selling Kwikset's because of return volume.

@@MrTemplefugate I mean they're turning the turnstile on the front hard. It's the only way I could think that punching in the code would cause it to not engage anymore. It normally occurs after about a year or two after the person installed the lock. It's the only one I get calls for failing all the time. And it's always the same issue the turnstile won't engage from using the code. The only other failures I've seen is due to corrosion or condensation buildup inside of the housing, which is rare for me to get a call for.
