Oh gosh, I'm not sure if I have a favorite fairytale! I also love when the beautiful writing adds a bit of magic. In regards to what I'm on the lookout for: definitely more fairy tale reads with subtle magic, or that sort of magical atmosphere, maybe even magical realism 😊

omg. Cinderella in the Revolting Rhymes is what got me into reading when I was younger. there's also a really simple book by scholastic called Mirror Mirror that tells stories like ugly duckling and swan in mirroring verses. I remember being awestruck by the simple 8 lines verses that tell completely different angle of the same story.

Ash by Malinda Lo is definitely one of my favorite retellings. My favorite fairytale is The Armless Maiden/The Girl with no Hands, of which I haven't found a retelling. I also love the animal bridegroom tales.

I'm definitely going to try kissing the witch :D...have you heard of Renee Vivien (1877-1909)? Her retelling of prince charming is amazing! (in"The woman of the wolf and other stories")

I once read a novel called Beauty but I don't remember the author. It was like YA and from what I remember it was pretty good. I think my favorite fairy tale is something I'm still searching for.

Sydney Stories Possibly Robin McKinley, who also wrote an adult B&tB retelling called Rose Daughter, which is brilliant.

I would recommend a book series from a good friend of mine that is also a Beauty and the Beast retelling. The first book is called the Beast and its sequel is called The Beauty by Lindsay Mead. The first book does follow the lines of the fairytale but with a twist (Belle is a huntress) and the sequel goes beyond the fairytale which is super interesting. The Cassandra Parkins book sounds intriguing and I really need to pick up my Angela Carter book again since I haven't finished it and I've had it since I was 19 😅

Another great video and as usual I go back and try to watch previous videos, seeing as my MA takes up all time and therefore I miss so many. I was watching your video Bookshelves Tour (17 March '17) again so many wonderful books, however, I noticed a book of poems that you displayed The Immigration Handbook. The cover is by a famous painter Jacob Lawrence series called The Great Migration, who was part of the tale end of the Harlem Renaissance depicting the movement of African Americans from the troubled South to various cities such as New York, Washington, Chicago in the Urban North. Such a fantastic painter and maybe you could a video about covers of books and what they relate to (just an idea). :-)

Have you heard of a book called 'The ASBO Fairy Tales' by Hans Christian Asbosen? It's a comical book aimed at adults of fairytale retellings with an ASBO twist. For example Blingerella, The Emperor's New Tracksuit, Little Red Riding Hoodie, The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Bailiff among others. I would highly recommend it for a laugh out loud, nonsense set of hilarious stories. Not sure if it's your thing but I just thought I'd let you know. Thanks so much x

I've been meaning to pick up Angela Carter forever...maybe I'll get to it soon. My favorite retelling is probably Till We Have Faces which is not technically a fairy tale retelling since Cupid and Psyche is a myth not a fairy tale, but close enough right. I'm also quite fond of Enchantment by Orson Scott Card which is a Sleeping Beauty retelling set in Russia with time travel involved.

My favourite fairytale is "Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher" by Walter Moers ("The City of Dreaming Books" - I haven't read it in English, though, as it is originally written in German, so I cannot guarantee for the translation). I absolutely recommend it to everyone, it's fantastic! Moers created a wonderful little world, in which books are pretty much the most important thing ever and in which several of his stories take place (this one is the very first one), it is no childrens book and rather for grown-ups. Furthermore, he is also an illustrator and cartoonists and he beautified the book with his ink drawings. It's absolutely fantastic - you should really give it a try! I found it on amazon and you can also have a look inside: www.amazon.de/City-Dreaming-Books-Zamonia/dp/0099490579

I haven't read it yet, but I know Marissa Meyer wrote a short story adaptation! She wrote The Lunar Chronicles which are more sci-fi than fantasy retellings. The Little Mermaid story is called The Little Android.
