I did not get this at the time, because I am super late to figuring out that I am likely AuDHD. ADHD-I official at 45 and at 48 figuring out the spectrum piece. Everything makes so much sense! I used to always come home and change immediately. Now I am at home so it's less of an issue, but some people don't understand. Infact I am married and old enough to not be as concerned about being cute. I am much more into comfort now. I still try to look nice, but I try to only buy comfortable cute now, so my style has changed. Now I also have noise canceling headphones a dark bedroom, eye mask, essential oils and even a tongue drum to create relaxing music easily so I can zone. So important and life changing to finally understand my needs!

As an AuDHD woman, a little bit older ...ok just older than you...I stopped leaving the house in anything that overstimulates me, or makes me exhausted before i leave. I used to get up at 1 am. to get ready for a 1pm. 6 too tired to function in 7 colors, another hoodie thar says I'm here, exhausted but here, and Nope Not today. I match them with my favorite exercise pants. In the summer, i have dresses and rompers. Very easy, comfortable, sensory overload friendly. I just use jewelry and make up to personalize. It took time to change that tape in my head, and to try and let go of worrying if others can look at me and tell i wasn't "normal" It has been really helpful in stress reduction in so many ways. Put YOU first always... And if they don't like it, then don't look...❤❤❤

As a fellow AuDHDer I can relate to this. In my teens and early 20s, I used to be a dedicated jeans girl. After wearing exclusively comfy material during the 2020 lockdown, wearing jeans felt awful. Denim feels like sandpaper to my skin now. I used to fight with it and try to find comfortable varieties. Eventually I gave up and was exclusively a comfy girl. Though now I'm getting into cottagecore, fantasycore, and cozycore type styles hugely because finding pieces that are as comfortable and sensory friendly as they are cute is hardly a challenge (it's also become a hobby and hyperfocus). Many of my most comfortable pieces can be styled very cutely if I feel like it, or they can just be worn with other comfies on a bad energy or sensory day. 💚😊

@ematty9039

Nah.. sometimes you have to be presentable, dress nice, wear makeup and put real shoes on. Business dress code sucks but all jobs do. Nothing to do with "putting yourself first", and remember, anything can become overly stimulating given enough time. Even the most comfortable shoes are getting on my nerves by mid-day. If you don't have these issues than your simply different than most adhd/autistic adults.
@akpopfamily907
17 күн бұрын
@ematty9039 That's why I said I have rompers that can be personalsized. If I need to be more dressed up, I put on something that will dress it up, but again, nothing that is going to over stimulate me. Because yes, anything can become overstimulating in time. Some things don't have to wait to be overstimulating. Some of us are affected deeply by being overstimulated, and avoiding it is the only way to be productive. I've spent over 20 years dressed in business attire, hurting shoes, etc...and I'm done pretending that I am Neurotypical and hiding my Neurodivergence, forcing myself to wear clothes/shoes that actually cause me physical and emotional distress because there is some unspoken rule that womens business attire has to hurt. I am a square peg, after years of jamming myself into the round hole of society, I don't fit anymore. What I've learned is that if I want to stay as productive as possible, for as long as possible with out my sensory challenges taking over causing a panic attack, or a full on meltdown is to start comfortable. You can both be professional and comfortable honoring your sensory challenges.

One thing I like about day light savings time - I can put my pjs on after taking off day clothes.

Now that I’m a sahm and chronically overstimulated, I wear my comfy sensory friendly clothing at all times! Highly recommend, it helps so much to keep me more regulated when I’m out and about! ☺️
