I said in the video I was gonna explain why I was not buying the GS 1300 Trophy but my ADHD kicked in an took my brain in a totally different direction. The Honda Africa Twin gives me more fun and a better feeling when riding as the BMW GS. I love the GS and it's a very good machine but sometimes a bit to boring for me. Maybe in 4 years but for now....it's gonna be the Honda 🙂

It's weird that you like more the 21" instead the 19" even if it has the 110/70 the 19"... But the 90 of the 21" doesn't give me the same feeling of a normal road tyre that what I feel on a long test of the 21". So do you buy an Africa? About the feeling I'm talking, of course, when you searching more the edge of the tyres on medium speed corners on mountain roads

@@szeriman13 honestly I rode both bikes a lot and the GS is far more superior... You can feel that is a premium class like riding my v4s.... The Africa it's almost the same (love eera suspension) but the engine is like less then the multi or the GS in urban/econo mode. The weight is another weak point... 100hp could be enough for sure, but not on more than 250kilos. And honestly I really love the africa. But the premium leading bikes are more.... Of course even the price is a lot higher that's why the Africa can say a lot.

Brill Smokey. I rode it for 2 hours and then ordered my GSA ASA. For me it was like 3 gearboxes in one. D + Road mode is very relaxed easy riding through traffic and open road. D + Dynamic it changes gears more often up and down and suits a faster pace. Manual M, I’ve just sold an XR and in manual mode the ASA is as close as a boxer twin can get to a perfect quickshifter. It’s better than my GSA1250. Hill starts are seamless. People need to ask, ‘ just how often do I use the clutch ? ‘ …. Starting off, filtering in traffic, hill starts, really tight hairpins. Slow manoeuvre with ASA I found easier, a lot easier. Keep up the good work 👍

For traveling „on road“ I would consider a bike with an automatic Transmission. But when I want to go off road I would stick with manual Transmission and Quickshifter.

I've always driven automatic cars, I don't think the old torque converter gearboxes would suit a motorcycle but these modern twin clutch automated manuals are so good they probably will be OK.

2:51 it's great to have a choice..! My personal takes 1) how sensible to put a automatic on an adventure bike where you need even minute control over clutch..? 2) automatics aren't that bad in cruisers like gold wing or harley, but are those really needed on adventure as they already top heavy and adding extra weight how good idea is that?? 3) do you planning on taking this machine off-road in near future, if no why this bike Why not street naked??

I wouldn't mind having an automatic motorcycle. Only time will tell if its reliable enough. I know as a long time mechanic, manual transmission are bullet proof. Clutch is the weak link, if you don't know how to use one. I haven't seen the African Twin here in the USA, but i will have to check one out. I'm the same height as you and you seem to ride it comfortably.

I wish that someone would test the asa gs’s in more difficult conditions. It’s already sad that the gs has been reduced to a Starbucks machine but some still ride them for real. It would be nice to see someone ride a hard TET on a asa gs.

I agree. Way too short 6th gear, increases consumption and unnecessary for such powerful bikes. I would like to ride on motorway at 130 km/h with 2500 RPM.

anyone who gets their panties bunched about auto bikes …how many would buy a bike without a quickshifter ? which is demanded as a standard feature on modern bikes !! which in turm is a semi automatic .. i think BMW have actually made a really good first go at it tbh ..i prefer the manual auto on the ASA as full auto is a little unnerving when it keeps up shifting on roundabouts and corners ..

Thanks for the video. 😃👍. On those uphill hairpin bends, can you not just change down with your foot when in automatic mode, or were you saying that then the gearbox thinks it will let you do the changing, and then maybe after a bit it goes back to changing automatically? 🤔 Or something like that? 🥴
@LifeofSmokey

So, the transmission starts in manual mode, in a supposedly "automatic" bike. Kind of backward, you have to put it every single time in "auto mode."" Reminds me of the geniuses of google maps, were they ask you to "accept " a new route, and if you do nothing, it will change it for you, that is really inconvenient when you purposely chosse that route!

Its an option so a BMW customer has to buy 😂…does not matter if its good, bad, better, worse…its a preference. As a veteran rider, I like it on a big tourer but the rest of my bikes benefit from the clutch. Is it my skill or the type pf bike…dont really care. I have half a century with the clutch and have zero negatives to complain about. I wont fix what isnt broke for me. Im sure it will be extremely popular Yall enjoy!

Very irrelevant to compare automatic gearbox automobiles with automatic gear box motorcycles. The former is a vehicle to go from A to B. The latter is a MOTORCYCLE. I have nothing to say to people preferring automated gearbox motorcycles or non-alcoholic beer. I will ride manual gearbox motorcyles until they extinct... cheers and ride safe.
