Totally speaking for myself, when I went to shows in the upper midwest as a teen... All the local bands rocked a 21" sweet ride because they could crash, ride, or smack the bell. I saw a drummer who had two of them and a pair of hi hats. He pulled out a level to make sure they were perfectly flat (for looks) then proceeded to do loads of stick tricks and switch lead hands. The Sweet Ride is ingrained in my brain as "THE CRASH RIDE". Hearing you rock it sounded perfect, again my opinion doesn't make me right. All the prototypes sounded solid to me. *shrugs* I'm not in the room soooo only getting the mix.

This is exciting dude, i play mostly in an acoustic trio now, music from the 60's to today, every genre, so i'm always looking for a versatile ride that can do it all. I usually rotate a 19 Armand Beautiful Baby, 20 K CrashRide, and a 22 A Medium depending on the setlist. I was looking at the 21 K Sweet , and a 20 A Ping, but man, i would absolutely snag one of these when they go on the market!

Craig, it wouldn't be a Stray album if it wasn't filled with drum parts that you wrote that are a little bit out of your comfort zone. Pretty sure it is one of the secret (key) ingredients of modern Stray. \m/. ❤❤❤❤. Like i stated on the stream it is rad how willing they have been in smoothing this baby out. Hopefully they didn't get as pissed off with ya' as ya' thought they might have. The fact you went with number 3 is hilarious.

Prototype 3 for me. The bell has volume but the note it more pleasing almost an iron clank. The wash sounds buttery but doesn’t get lost, and it sounds more dynamic in the build up than proto 7.

Curious if you tested a 21 K Hybrid Ride. I recently purchased one and , considering your desires, I feel like it might be very close to what you’re looking for. Unlathed from bell to 3in out. Super hot but doesn’t activate the wash. Trad lathing. I feel like if it was thinner around the outer 3 inches it would crash perfectly. Just a thought.

My man! Why don't you just put them side to side on multiple stands and compare them? Place the one you feel the most in the original place and the other instead of the right crash or even add a stand?😅 I know you have to feel it in the right context and original setup, but that was how i settled for my fave Z mega bell version😁👍
@reynlord666

more effort than recording them all in the same position I would play it and then a-bing them
@kafaanda
5 ай бұрын
@@reynlord666 i totally get that, but you can tweak the recording settings as much as you please later on. Just trusting your ears and narrowing it down to your 2-3 faves. Then drive yourself crazy with comparing them recorded idk😂 It's either way not a valid option to test one and "remember" it while you change to another etc😅 Anyways, you know best. Keep on rocking, big fan👌❤️
@reynlord666

@@kafaanda if i set up all of them i need to play all the cymbals at the same height so i need to move all the mics or it wouldnt be a fair test. it's one thing to hear them on their own but it needs to compliment the whole kit. also, a ride might feel and sound nice behind the kit but then have a less than desirable overtone you can only hear in recording, which a few of these have. i recorded everything, assumed 3 was the one for me then went back and checked the recordings, i was right so i made the video. if the recordings were not what i 'felt' at the time i would have done a shoot out much like you said and would have made a second video explaining why. luckily i didnt have to! thanks for watching!

@@reynlord666 All that matters is that you're completely assured that you've made the right choice when making a signature cymbal. It has to be "you" and your preferences👌 I trust you that's for sure😁 You drumfluenced me to get an 11" oriental trash splash, and that one fucks🤘

Mate….and you don’t know me and I don’t know you. Though I lived with this completely. 3 is the best balance, 5s crash is gorgeous but the bell is too dry and activates the crash too much. And 3 beats 7 marginally. You know what to do.
