My first horse was a barrel racer so of course, I took up the sport! She was amazing. All I had to do was hang on. Don't know who trained her but it was great for me! Later I moved onto eventing and cross country, different horses, different everything. And later followed my daughter on her little hunter pony. Love Horse People!

Now that many people regard their pets as part of the family and love them as if they were their own children, perhaps more thought should be given to their health care. The longer our pets live, the longer we can spend happy time with them. The longevity of our pets is a testament to the love and affection of their owners. Let's keep proper health care in mind and lead a rich and fulfilling pet life!🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴😍😍😍😍😍😍

@@StephanieMoratto As someone who knows absolutely nothing about barrel racing, I always assumed that you would start with your worse lead, since there’s only one turn the first way and then the next two are the other way. So if he’s better at the right lead you would rather have two turns to the right instead of one. How come it’s not like that? Is it just considered easier to start on the good lead and teach a flying change to the bad one?

@@StephanieMoratto I’d definitely try running to the left first to practice that left lead a little more. You wanna make sure he’s soft and easy to both leads. And starting with the left lead hell have 2 right turns rather than left so he’s not trying to kick up that left lead as much. Lots of right dominant horses love to run to the left first because it’s less left turns!

*Coming from someone who works at a rescue and sees many incorrect things* As a person who doesn’t like barrel racing generally, I LOVE when I see people doing it correctly. Letting him take his time around the barrels and not just pulling on his face and kicking. I absolutely LOVE that you didn’t just let him gallop back after the third barrel, I see so many people just kicking and whipping their horses. We have SO MANY horses that, whenever they see a barrel, lose their minds, because of the fact that they have been runned over and over and just bested to a pulp through all of it. A few tips, I would recommend raising the hay net higher up in the trailer, if he paws (not saying that he does) that could be extremely dangerous. I have seen multiple horses get caught in hay nets with their feet from pawing. Second, I REALLY recommend using a nylon or leather halter in the trailer. Due to the fact that rope halters almost can’t break, they become super dangerous in a situation like this. I am aware that you know your horses better than anyone else, but I have seen so many cases where the horses literally break their neck from the rope halter not breaking. Just a little bit of my thoughts, but love what you’re doing so far!!

From what I’ve heard the first barrel is the hardest because the horse is excited to run the pattern and other things. Try to keep his head a bit low when starting at the barrel so he can see it and understand to go around it because if his head is up it will be harder for him to see it and to know where to go to get around it

Really hard not to critique you, because people do that all the time on Facebook, but i won’t because you didn’t ask! 😆 The only thing I’ll say is watch what the other people, who win the Barrel races, are doing in their exhibitions. Watch their collection, foot placement, their rating, etc. i know you see a trainer but looking at how other trainers train could add more tools to your tool belt! And don’t be afraid to ask them! Most are willing to tell you why they are doing what they’re doing! Also Fallon Taylor is a good Barrel racer to follow! She also has what she calls horse bosses which help you train your Barrel horse!
