Welcome to Kenya, be sure to visit Kisumu sometime☺.. about salting food, i think in restaurants you wouldn't really be accurate with each and every customer's amount of salt preference that's why they tend to add a reasonable amount to everyone's liking so that those that consume more salt can add more to their liking

The salt thing annoys me, it's really not that hard to season food moderately. If you want less salt just ask for it.

Salt is cooked into meals like soups and greens but salt is always on the side to add for people who want more.🤣🤣my brother always starts his meal with adding salt to food without tasting it first no matter what. The salt on the side to dip is mostly for the Nyama Choma and other grilled meats.

That's because some people don't eat salt, other's are specific to which amount, others prefer different types of salt like sea salt, so they'd rather add in small quantities or not add salt at all.

Kenyans do cook food with salt only that they put moderate amount for the sake of those who don't like it salty. Then during serving, extra will be provided for those who like it salty. And always go to goat choma joints not beef. Beef is not very tasty when grilled as compared to goat meat.

@@VictorineBihTakwe it depends on where the closest car is from your location. It may take upto 1 min, 2, 3 or even 30mins. You were lucky to have waited just for 2minutes cuz the closest car to you was just 2mins away. That's how uber works too.

Babanki seems to have some distant relation to bantu languages we speak in Kenya. For example, counting 1 - 10, Babanki vs Kiswahili: 5 - tàn, tano 7 - sòmbô, saba 10 - wúm, kumi I'll dig more into this one day when I have time

The original kikuyu mukimwo has maize, beans, potatoes and pumpkin leaves (not really pumpkins but a plant of the same family called kanyuria) all mashed together. When dry and kept in a cool airy space, it can last for weeks.

I don’t understand the concept of not pre-seasoning food with lots of spices before cooking it so that the flavors “enter” the food! 😂 The idea of not even putting basic salt is just so foreign to me! But I think they’re a few tribes in Cameroon that eat very bland foods.

Kenyans believe spices and salt cause diseases. second Kenyans especially my people(Mt kenya) are lazy in the kitchen, three, food is not regarded, like the way it is in West Africa.. they just throw in veggies here and there add lots of water, and hope for the best. Personally, I grew up eating this then happened to live with Nigerians, Cameroonians, Ghanain, and Malians. No, we can't cook.
