@profe3330

That's very true. A person might disapprove of this or that detail of their own country's leadership, but when they feel that their government is basically on their side, they overlook minor things, and tend to be cooperative, thoughtful and positive in public life. (Switzerland during COV*D comes to mind.) Once doubt sets in, though, all bets are off - as we see daily in the US.

I am a Chinese diaspora living in UK. Visited Beijing,Shanghai,Xian first time in May 2024. Your first impressions echoed mine too. Having lived over 70 years under Western influenced culture and environment (20yrs Msia, 52 UK), the cleanliness, safety, friendliness, happy atmosphere was what I experienced in China. And I also adopted the back packing approach avoiding tour guides, often spent time looking at daily lives, work attitudes.. Amazing... Talked to the locals and they all say politely the West have nice people but there are a lot of irresponsible leaders. Yet they all feel safe from foreign threats. There is more I can say but I leave the good Dr to experience it himself and be amazed..

In my experience, everybody I know that has visited China comes back with a completely different opinion of China. Negative Western Propaganda has poisoned the minds of the people. That is why so many are "surprised" when they visit, including myself. Have a great time, in this highly advanced country with its wonderful people. As an international traveller over many years, I believe the greatest life lessons you can ever learn comes from international travel. I have always wished it was compulsory for our younger generations to travel internationally before they move onto tertiary education. That's the difference between open surveillance and secretive surveillance. The Chinese government is very open about the surveillance program and so they can openly use the full capability to fight even minor crime. London is secretive about their program, so even if they have the same resource, they don't want the public to know it's capability, so it is only used for catching people like Snowden and Assange and leave the average criminal uncheck.

Eating lunch and dinner are brilliant, they have the meals, and warm water / tea and finished with a melon. The people are extremely friendly, and are business orientated. Loved working in HK and Shenzhen. Also, you will love Singapore if you get the chance. It is totally modern, similar to Shanghai. As per 3:02 I'm in the Law Enforcement business, so I know this & in my lifetime I have worked as a Bank Guard in more than 50 different banks, in various neighborhoods thru out Chicago & Milwaukee. I can tell you right now that it doesn't even matter how many cameras a bank has, in fact, it doesn't matter how many cameras any business has, cameras don't really make that much of any difference. What does make a difference is the economy. In the more than 50 banks that I worked as a Security Guard, I noticed that some banks would get robbed as much as twice a month, other banks would just never ever get robbed, never. What's the difference? All the banks have cameras loaded up to your wazoo, covering every possible angle of any potential bank robberies. It is mostly the banks located in the poorer neighborhoods that get robbed, in places where half the population is unemployed, that's where most of the bank robberies happen. Not only the banks, but any type of business, in the poorer neighborhoods, they get subjected to much higher crime incidents . But in the richer neighborhoods, where everyone has a job, where nobody is suffering from want, the banks never get robbed. Yes, there are some banks, only those that are located in the richer neighborhoods, they never ever get robbed. Go figure. In the retail business, they say that the vast majority of what people buy is based on impulse shopping. That is to say that very few people actually set out to go buy one specific thing that they decided they need to go buy. For most people, they notice something and immediately realize that they need to buy that thing, based on impulse. It seems that crime & robberies happen the same way... which goes a long way to explain why crime rates are so localized in the specific neighborhoods where poverty exists. China's extremely low crime rate has absolutely NOTHING to do with CCTV cameras. I contend that China's low crime rate has EVERYTHING to do with China's very successful poverty alleviation programs.

From the very popular Chinese TV series, I get a glimpse of how the Police authorities work with the data collected by the Cameras. The Chinese in all their history as related in Ancient Chinese movies, are generally law abiding and peaceful population. . Their culture is different from the West. They have always treated foreigners from Central Asia well and respect the foreigners belief. Browse the chat channels and one will see the many popular and successful actors have muslim names.. Racism is rare in China. Watch the Chinese TV series, then watch the Western TV series - then you decide on which culture from the TV series you would like to adopt..

True. This is as simple as Maslow's hierarchy of needs. You need to ensure the two most lowest and most basic needs are met, namely physiological and safety needs. These need to be met across all your population. When you can assure these 2 needs, you will have a safe and stable population (there will be outliers, some people are just born crooks)

I am a loyal fan of your channel, Dr. David. If I were there, even with my mediocre command of Mandarin, I would volunteer to be your interpreter. Visit other parts of China too. I have been to rural villages Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Hunan, and Guangdong recently. Goodness, I did NOT see poverty anywhere. So different from 30 years ago when my parents took me as a kid to see China. China even in its big cities was dirt poor. My relatives even had to depend on my grandparents' remittance from Thailand. We're back there in NE Guangdong in April, their lives are great and their children are very optimistic about China. สวัสดีจากประเทศไทย 来自泰国的时候

I visited Beijing and Shanghai in 2010. it was a wonderful trip and indeed Dr O is correct. The Chinese are very kind, curious, and helpful and I got an overall feeling of content and happiness in the people. You also sense the immense history of China everywhere coupled with the exciting growth and vitality of the cities. I will definitely try to return again on my next trip to Asia.

So nice to see Dr.O‼️ You made me laugh bc you're saying: Im sorry " every 2 minutes, you sound like a Canadian, we are known for that. Also looking at your sorroundings it's nice to see that not everywhere its lights and new cities, but the traditional houses can still be found. It also reminded me of the Chinese market and area in downtown Toronto. I don't know if i could be between so many people without feeling overwhelmed but at the same time you were able to move quite fast between the crowd. If i can recommend you something is go to a nice restaurant where they serve Dim Sum and ask for chicken feet in black beans sauce and also you must try Jasmine tea, it's delicious and very digestive. I was so happy to see that we got a video from you but i didn't expected to be so natural and humble. All the best and we are here waiting for your next video. Have a great traveling ‼️❤️✌️

Since you were having halal food in Shanghai, here is a little statistics about religion believes status of China : The first mosque in China was the Huaisheng Mosque in Guangzhou, built during the Tang dynasty in 627 CE. In of 2014 there were 39,135 mosques in China, in 2009 an estimated 25,000 of these were in Xinjiang, a north-west autonomous region, having a high density of one mosque per 500 Muslims. Guess how many are they in US: There are 2,769 mosques in the United States as of 2020, and the nation's largest mosque, the Islamic Center of America, is in Dearborn, Michigan. It caters mainly to the Shia Muslim congregation; however, all Muslims may attend this mosque. So China has almost 14times more mosques than US, it even surpassed the Buddhist temples numbers, which is around 34,000, another Pew Research reported in 2023 shows: "Some media reports and academic papers have suggested the Christian share may be larger, with estimates as high as 7% (100 million) or 9% (130 million) of the total population, including children." In China, aChristian population is almost 4 times of Christians in UK which is around 27.5 millions. Plus there are an estimated 10-12 million Catholics in mainland China, so all kinds of religious believes do co- exist in China.

The true honor system is their unattended self serve stores where you grab what you need and pay. If such a store was to operate in New York City it would be ransacked bare in 2 minutes flat !

Shanghai has very tough laws on vehicles and getting an ICE vehicle is a struggle. An EV is easier. The city is trying to clean its air and EV’s help a lot. All the buses are NEV.

When I was in Frankfurt AP to get a map, the store rep, a young lady, practically ignored me even when I approached her to inquire about the cost and I was the only customer in that store!! Eventually, I walked out feeling very upset.
