in retrospect, I think I set the post processing gain a bit high, balancing the mic audio and game audio is slightly different now that I'm running both a new mic and new headphones so I'll have to get used to that. this is also the first video uploaded in my new native resolution at that native resolution quality, so instead of 1080p upscaled to 4k (for youtube video compression shenanigans), this is just a true 1440p. hopefully the quality looks good

I got access to it, managed to put 20 hours in it. Gunplay as you said, I agree, its alright, it wasn't gonna be hard to improve on PD2. Only way i found to reload cancel was by sprinting, which is annoying but they did add a multi step mechanic to reloads, say you start reloading the revolver, you dump the casings out, have to sprint to cancel it, once you continue reloading, you just quickly put the new bullets in. Same for other guns with magazines. I didnt like the smgs at all, makes having the revolver to deal with heavier swats, shields and snipers a necessity. Every other gun was great, found the M14 the best in the beta, shotgun a close second, the perk that added bullets directly back into the gun on kill loop was fantastic for clearing out rooms, especially once you got the 10% damage bonus going. I feel like the armor bag was the only one worth having, since armor no longer regens like in PD2 and you get first aids from hostsges AND since gun play is slower you struggle less with ammo. I never ran anything else once armor bags were available. Loud was barely improved on in terms of mechanics, but i did like that having many hostages around nerfs some cop units, e.g. Shotgun cops swap to pistols, grenadiers use flash bang rather than tear gas. Stealth feels brand new and the new mechanics of getting detected then escorted out or cuffed means you get a couple get out of jail free cards, making it easier on newcomers, i like it. Graphics were okay, the game ran alright, no stutter or freezing or long load times, just expected better visuals from an unreal engine game. I did struggle with FPS stability, fluctuated a lot. Had to cap it 45. And yeah, also hate this matrix green filter. Internet connection was actually fine 90% of the time. Crossplay is welcome, makes me feel like console players wont be left in a ditch again. But i did notice that console players struggled a lot more on higher difficulties. And yeah, audio is iffy, cant hear specials well, music sometimes is too loud (great song though), and our voices feel buried beneath it all, i wanna hear my characters more, get a feel for their personalities. Last notes, the gun painting mechanics looks like crap. The way to unlock attachments through use is nice. The C-stack currency thing feels a bit pointless. Like a worse continental coin.

I got lucky and had about 5 hours with the beta so I got the tail end of it where most of the day 1 issues were long gone. No leveling issues, connectivity or lagging so I feel like I got a good picture of what the game will be like I like the gunplay and shooting personally. I know a lot of people are used to the good ol fashioned arcadyness of payday 2 but honestly Ive always preferred the buttery smoothness and awkward milsim movement of pdth (i realize im in the minority on this but its my opinion) The bindings are atrocious and theres no reason to have the shout key bound to the same key as the chat/ping wheel - its just awkward but the menu looked unfinished so hopefully there will be a way to bind them separately or disable it completely on launch The 2 maps we've all seen are a little bland and small but they're much better than jewelry store heist and the starter bank in payday 2 and more replayable, plus I heard theres going to be a nice mix of larger heists too, including a big bank/fwb-esque map thats already been semi leaked in screenshots of cover art - if thats the case, having a mix of small and large maps will be healthy and im looking forward to seeing how they pull it off I like the simpler skill system, I guess its a shame for people who liked optimizing builds, and as you said, people who liked the silly stuff, but for me personally I wont be missing the old skill system because I would much rather the gameplay be centered around how well you shoot and use your surroundings opposed to optimizing your builds with a magnifying glass. I realize I am also in the minority on this as well but like I said - Im a firm pdth enjoyer (i will miss playstyle changing perk decks though like stoic, hacker, kingpin, ect.) I agree with the cosmetics of specialists, they look too normal and dull. Bring back the panzer style bulldozer from pdth Online only is the stupidest option they could have chosen for a company that was just saved from bankruptcy not even a whole half decade ago seriously wtf were they thinking? Ive already seen a massive amount of hate from people who A) cant play online only games because of location and B) refuse to support the shitty practice. Add that with sprinkled in lack of mod support and allegedly $40 for 4 additional heists that have no guarantee of being high quality and you have yourself a recipe for a game that will be dead in like 2 years tops The gameplay satisfyed and really resonated with me as someone who enjoyed pdth but there are some very questionable decisions surrounding the release and it feels very patreon scammy but the beta proved itself to me at least. Any game that is online only, will suffer of the fate of "THE GAME NO LONGER WORKING" in long term like Anthem. I hate when games are no longer accessible since it can be costly for the company to keep it up at all times and always have server maintenance like Diablo 4 and Tom Clancy the Division that interrupts gameplay/purchases you want to do in-store. Not to mention modding a game (from tinkering the files to client-side mods to server wide mods [maps, etc]) in "single-player" in a online only environment is going to be extra hard and annoying. I never liked online-only games since it kills accessibility of people who have bad internet or very limited access to it. That's my take on it. Honestly so far, the experience for me was: Loud: Felt weak compared to Payday 2's wack, mobile gunplay where you can do dumbest crap and make it work by power of duct tape, jank and prayer when it comes to fun, movement felt bad, gunplay was just meh though that's mostly due to how little there was in terms of variety. And when it comes to being tactical, it also falls apart and feels like it was forced to be like this when it also is trying to hamfist sliding into this mess. And when it comes to visual clarity... Yeah, classic "better graphics" case to me. Not only did specials blend in way more with regular units, but to me it felt like the normal units were blending in with the environment. Plus the skills... Yeahhh... Didn't feel like I really had much options with them for experimentation? Stealth: Definitely an upgrade from Payday 2 in my opinion. More things to do besides killing at most 4 guards and waiting for a drill or two to finish and run out. Still jank as fuck at times, but imo way more fun then Payday 2's stealth.

To me Payday 3 feels like Payday 1.5, which is fine if you enjoyed the first game, but Payday 2 did something special and turned a methodical shooter into an insane arcade shooter where you could refine builds, destroy entire waves on your own, throw bags into the sun, revive people by shouting at them with inspire from across the map and most importantly for me at least, doing all this whilst listening to some of the best ingame music Ive ever heard. Payday 2 has been a Steam chart topper for the longest time and it feels like they've stripped most of what made Payday 2 great, for some people this might be a welcome change but I feel like for most people, it will become very stale very quickly Hot take maybe and maybe they'll surprise us

I can already see that they did not maked the AI better. They still pushing like idiots into a room where four players are waiting. Just farm them like in PD2. NO im not gonna buy PD3 by looking at this video. I guess im gonna take a new look at it when it goes live.

My guy it is so hard to take your first impressions seriously when you within seconds undermine your original thought then not even 30 seconds later show video proof that both impressions are factually wrong.

All that waiting and the stealth looks horrendous! The graphics are irrelevant if we compare it to PD2 which is my opinion is still better. The game used to be colorful and unique and now it just feels bland and gloomy for some reason. Lets just hope that the Beta is way different than the real thing.

New mike sounds fine, better than the last one. I would be interested to see your setup. I just upgraded myself so i want to see if I can get similar performance. Out of curiosity, why low settings for shadows, etc.? Was that a performance gain or just a way to deal with color blindness issues?

if you care just about comparing raw performance, my specs are in the description. also, I turned shadows to low because people were saying it's one of the biggest contributing factors to inconsistent framerate, I opted to turn it down preemptively

So, if i understand correctly, this game mainly feels like a proper sequel VS Payday 2?
@brythonbrowning1950

Payday 3 should've kept the fast pace of payday 2. The game felt odd asf right, but that was its charm. I can spam crouch in the air. I had basically full control of my character. It felt satisfying just to run with a light vest on high fov and jump around. I was hoping Payday 3 was gonna improve on that mobility because I saw a slide. I don't think Payday needed a slide at all. Maybe a battlefield 4 slide, as in your character crouches with the intent to stop, and he slides forward some anyway. I was really hoping to see tech in this game, like how halo 5 had dash slide jumps or slide jump dashes depending on how far you wanted to go. I absolutely love being able to just run through PayDay 2, I was theorizing all the cool things they could do with slide, maybe from a slide you can unlock sicks such as a leg tackle to ground a line of police. Or perks that allow you to instantly pick up a back from a slide as if it was thrown to you. Heck even a side roll from a slide to change direction and immediately sprint left or right. Payday 2 never felt slow paced, even in heavy armor the game just keeps throwing stuff and throwing stuff, and the downtime isn't long. It's just more and more and more with banger music. And you wanted to be in and out fast if you was going loud, like a heist. You NEED to leave. It's why I like payday 2 combat. I feel compelled to leave, get out. Making it more tactical and slow is simply a set back.

I had a lot of time with the beta and I'm mostly happy with it despite the fact it was a months old build Gunplay was definitely a massive improvement compared to PD2, but as has been said it isn't a particularly high bar to pass, however the guns look and feel amazing, more smoothness as such. Needing to use different weapons for different scenarios and having to use guns to level them up allows players to feel comfortable with different weapon classes and encourages people to play differently unlike PD2 where meta used the same weapons. In regards to stealth, much like mustard you like it or don't, it isn't for everyone but it is undeniably true that stealth has been improved massively, casing mode alone makes stealth feel like it is more than just bunny hopping honkey tonkey break dancing all over the map avoiding enemies like the plague, there are actual ways of stealthing without murdering half the map and because of the phone hacking you can have one or more team members stay unmasked keeping tabs on guards My overall impression is, it isn't going to be a perfect sequel and people are going to be unhappy about various things regardless, nothing is ever perfect but in my mind it looks a lot more appealing and less chaotic than PD2

I'm not colorblind, and i agree the specials do have a visibility issue. I understand the cloaker, because hes kind of supposed to be like that, but ive had a few matches where a grenadier has gassed the entire map and no-one can find them, dozers come up out of nowhere, i never saw a problem with the tazers, but they are fairly hard to distingush in a group. the filter is pretty gross too, reminds me of the grey/brown military shooter trend from the late 00's, early 10's.

My biggest gripe is that the recoil feels like a mobile game compared to PD2, very low camera recoil and it makes the gun feel less satisfying to shoot, nothing will beat having dual glocks in PD2 and having to control those monsters during a spray

Having "slower" actions makes consequences of your action more meaningful, just like longer/interruptible reloads. You have control over your actions: to not do them when it's not appropriate. Rather than press one button and fly 10m forward. What would take away your control would be actual cc and maybe suppression mechanic. (which I believe would be a far better trait to add to bulldozer rather than massive hp pool) Staged reload...etc. and all of the "slower" actions makes the game feel much better than how floaty pd2 was, it makes the gameplay more immersive and thus rewarding(feels like I actually hauled a bag of cash, soon gold, to the getaway van and fought hard along the way rather than floating through it all). Part of why pd2 had to have enemy damage/hp tuned way up at higher difficulties is likely because players could just do everything fast and thus have very low downtime/exposure to enemy fire. And specials being less fruity-colored makes them much more of a threat in a crowd rather than two clicks. It will make marking, spotting skills...etc. more useful. As long as they handle sound cue correctly.

I agree, also adding on with them being similar styles fits in with the military type you don't want to stand out too much in battle. Like if the enemies knows certain type of people will be wearing bright orange and that those people are going to use explosives against you. Your gonna spot them easily in the battle and prioritize your attention on them till they are dealt with. We are supposed to be the bad guys here don't make it that easy on us we aren't that bad.

I might honestly have to give the game a pass purely on the principle of forcing me to be always online via a 3rd party. I refuse to accept anything with lootboxes, shitty DRM, and other user hostile bullcrap like that. Maybe once a mod comes to kill the online-check (Sometimes people just want to play even when their internet is down) I'll check it out but honestly that alone is all but 100% instant rejection of this game. If a server check is mandatory, what happens when the server is shut down (Permanently or just for upkeep?)? I play a TON of older games most of which have no online support anymore so will PD3 be entirely unplayable once they shut down the servers? If I buy the game it shouldn't be a temporary lease, it should be MY copy to play when I want no matter how far down the line it is.

you got me into payday 2, around the time big bank was released and i enjoyed Payday 2 greatly. HOw should i say, as there was no real story, just any heist you like, it was a good game trp pass the time with no real hurry/objective in mind. Steztealth sure is greatly improved in payday 3. Tough, as a singleplayer, I am curious how how team al will be in payday 3. I played mostly on normal in payday 2, due to how incapable the bots were aginst tasers and cloakers

Wow this makes me really sad, honestly I thought the game was In a better shape. I guess that I got deceived by the other reviews. I do believe tho that the game might fix most of these issue before launch as it would be wise for overkill to do so. The movement also seems really dissapointing compare to the speedy control you have in PD2. Good video, thanks for the honest review.

The always online nature is the main reason I decided to not pre-order and instead just play it on Game Pass, on top of this, I won't be playing on launch either, I can see there being a lot of issues at launch due to the game being always online, so I will be waiting a week before I play it, maybe longer depending on how quick the issues are resolved. The beta in no way was a good way to stress test the servers, especially when you factor in the fact that people with Xbox Game Pass will get to play for free, the game at launch will be huge and no doubt they haven't prepared for this.

Personally I would have appreciated a more focused approach on amplifying the arcade elements of pd2 the hectic and ridiculous nature of solo dw heists doesn't even seem possible here. Having never played the game, it seems too realistic to shine the way pd2 does

Great to hear your thoughts but on the regard of the Shotgun I was able to cancel the reload between shells by aiming. In fact the shotgun tree seems built around just loading a couple shells here and there rather than sitting for a full reload. Also on the point of skills it's hard to judge since with my time I only had 7 skill points but I felt even less restricted in terms of building.

I feel like wacky games will always outlive the more "professional" and "realistic" type of games. Such as why team fortress 2 is still alive. I've been playing payday 2 since 2015 and I just love how erratic and quick the gameplay feels. And the amount of weapons and loadouts too! And of course, the characters. From the main cast of protagonists to the iconics voicelines for each and every special unit. I don't really dig this new payday 3 to be honest. I was kinda hoping for it to be payday 2 but with a new game engine that wasn't made for a car game.

you can seriously feel the difference when firing a weapon in PD3 VS PD2, which PD2 has smoother and more realistic recoil, sound effects, and weapon models, PD3's weapons feel cartoonish. And this even goes for things like sprinting animations. Who sprints with a pistol like that in PD3? They should really consider tweaking a bunch of things. AI is also kinda dumb. If i saw a man crouching around the bank with a large trench coat and surgical gloves id call the police instead of turning my back on them and simply escorting them out.

You got weird "issue" with Cloakers. In the original game they made no sound at all. PAYDAY 2 Cloakers are a joke. Be aware with your surroundings and you're good. Apart from that, good takes. Performance was kinda sucky too, yeah. My CPU is slightly below minimal requirements, sure, but rest of my system should have been more than enough to get me more than 40 frames low settings native res on average. Hope it was a "beta thing".

I really wish the revolver was better. It never felt like a Wingman to me. I'm not a fan of "realistic" gunplay games, I like the goofy stuff from like Titanfall/Apex and Paycheck 2 (Also these games have really fast character movements). Peeking through ADS is neat though. But yeah, I feel like PD3's stealth and loud send a quite mixed message, do you want the game to be more or less realistic? As a man with a 5800X3D and a 3090, the framerate is high but not consistent. Kinda expected that, but still I'm like one of the best cases scenarios out there. Also MAN do I envy the cable room in the regular Torrent, got no room in the Torrent compact.
