I'm always amazed by how smooth you make everything look. Even when you're dropping, performing complicated tricks, etc., everything still looks fluid and natural. I can't seem to achieve that even when I'm just doing 3-ball cascade. Any suggestions for consistency beyond "just practice?"
@TaylorTries
4 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! I think learning to think about how you catch the props is important. Consciously thinking about not stopping the prop’s momentum when you catch it, sort of like catch an egg that you don’t want to break. That’s at least the start!
@seanhampson4126

another thing that helps is focus on your breathing instead of your mistake while going for a prop you've dropped. It can change your demeanor and make it look much more fluid, since you're more relaxed.

@TaylorTries

If you like beanbags and prefer juggling outside, then yes they’re great. They’re super durable and waterproof! They are heavier and more dense than most beanbags though, so keep that in mind. But for durability they can’t be beat!

I love when you show the entire process like this in a video. You can really see the gears turning in your head when you change from trick to trick or stay focused on the same trick after messing up. Your videos like this taught me to watch myself on video to catch my own mistakes more easily. Thanks for this!

I just taught one of my Juggling Lessons today, Distance Ed. I used you as one of my examples of a Real Juggler and Someone to Look at for Inspiration, because not only do you show great juggling, but you show what Juggling really is..... a lot of drops. It can be frustrating for even adults to see jugglers Nailing every trick, every time they try it, but that's not real life. I tell my downtown Middle School boys that you show what juggling really is; Attempt after attempt, drop after drop, for baby steps of progress. It's so easy to "fake" perfection, and you keep it real and grounded. Thanks!

Do you do any supplementary exercises besides juggling like lifting weights/yoga/pilates or anything else? I try to start juggling with 4 balls but maybe because of 4-5 years of dancing I need some time to rebalance the coordination and strength on my body. Would you recommend me anything specific?
@TaylorTries
4 жыл бұрын
I like to do about 30 mins of cardio or weight lifting/body weight exercises 5/6 times a week. It helps me keep up my endurance for juggling! It’s also really important to stretch before juggling. I do 10-15 mins of stretching before I juggle, focusing on my neck, shoulders, arms, and back. For 4 balls, you shouldn’t need too many other exercises, it’s mostly coordination at that level! But adding any sort of upper body exercises will also help 😄

50:34 lol that has happened to me so many times. It's unbelievable how things like that always happen while juggling! Few years ago I was performing LED-juggling with a couple of friends. There was this closed door next to a stage that had a little space underneath it. Of course my friend dropped during an act and the ball rolled straight underneath that door to another room. Nobody had keys to that door so he couldn't get that ball back during the show. Audience laughed and probably thought it was part of the show!

Loved seeing the full practice cuz I did notice something and I wanted to ask your opinion, people say to have a rhythm so they bounce but you don’t do that. Is that more personal preference? Also I got 11 catches today. So I’m gonna keep going.
@TaylorTries
4 жыл бұрын
I think “bouncing” as you throw can be an okay technique to learn the rhythm when you’re first learning to juggle, but it can quickly become very detrimental to your improvement. It makes it harder to learn a lot of tricks, and uses more energy so you get tired quicker. I’d say after you can do 10 catches of 3 balls, you should definitely work on not bouncing your body ☺️

My regret was trying to move onto 5-ball juggling too soon. I could have learned so much 3 and 4 object juggling with that time and effort. I am sure I could have learned 3-club backcrosses and lots of 4-ball tricks. My personal best for the 4-club async fountain was about 44 catches, and 5b was about 33 catches. You millennials and Z'ers are so lucky. I had no KZitem in the 1990s and had to learn a lot of stuff out of a book.
