8:36 Maybe the issue with the trash cans was that bit of cable hanging down off the gantry, could have been brushing up against the print and moving the plastic around.

After watching your unveiling video earlier this week, I pre-ordered one of these machines. Coming from an engineering and machining background, I wasn't going to pass up an opportunity like that! Also, it'll make a great birthday gift to myself when it arrives. Great vids Jim. Keep them coming.

For the trash cans you should check the extruder cable. I had the same issue with my original SVO6 where printing a large print in vase mode the extruder cable sagged into the inside of the print and as the head moved it was pushing on the back of my print causing it to crack and almost fail. I luckily heard the cracking and tediously lifted the cable out of my print until it completed.

After some review since the video, I think you're absolutely right! I also found filament pieces on the cable after the last failed print. I'm going to make something that holds the cable up and out of the way!

A grease and power supply tale with the Sovol SV06. Usually, I don't enjoy ranting about things, but well, here we are: All linear ball bearings of the printer come without lubrication. There was a tube of grease inside my package for the SV06 Plus, so before assembly, disassembly it was. Rather anything else than easy, the X-Axis is a royal pain to disassemble, especially if you want your rods to remain straight. Didn’t bend mine, but an “out of the box”-experience it is not. After greasing the linear bearings they are still louder than it is to my liking. Off to a good start so far… Next up: the PSU. Oh boy. The 450 W power supply is - as far as I can tell - exactly sized to fit perfectly in the trash bin (alternatively find a cozy spot on the scrapyard). This box jams with RF-radiation so hard, that FM-radios in a 10 m radius will drop/reduce their signal. On top, this will impact the printer itself. How does this show? Well, the display sometimes reads hilariously wrong values (extruder at - 574 C, so below 0 K which would literally break physics, or hideous print-times, crashes). As a bonus, some inputs will be ignored or misinterpreted. Position the Nozzle .24 mm above the printer bed for Z-Offset you say? Ay captain, 3 mm below the printer bed it is. Left an ugly mark in the PEI-sheet. Another time after auto bed leveling, while priming the nozzle (printing a straight line on the bed), it lifted off the bed like an A-380 during takeoff due to a presumably miscalculated mesh. Fortunately, it lifted itself off the bed instead of digging a trench into it. Because so far, I had a fun time, I peeked inside the PSU to find a component count, which might be the bare minimum for it to put out something close to 24 V. This box is filled with magnificent emptiness. My bet is, that it is not power factor corrected, which would make it straight up unlawful to use in a private household in Europe. Oh, and it is as loud as my vacuum cleaner at medium power. The fan never turns off and always runs at 100 %. Imprinted on the outside it reads “This power supply is built-in fan on/off control circuit. fan automatically works according to working temperature” (SIC). Cute. What did I do? I bought a new name brand PSU, which now makes about one quarter of the paid price of the printer. FM-reception is back to normal, PSU is super quiet (because it’s fanless, duh), no funky temperature values, no crashing firmware, no freezing display, no nozzle in the printer bed, no auto leveling hiccups. So far after three days of 10+ h testing, not a single problem so far (which before would have occurred usually at least every two hours, sometimes after 3 minutes). So if you already have a SV06 Plus and it crashes or freezes: most likely will the PSU be the culprit. Fix it or send it back. The rigidity of the whole setup is a bit on the light side, so prepare for ringing and ghosting at medium print speeds (say above 80 mm/s or so, esp. after 250 mm/s travel). The nozzle is proprietary (about 2 mm longer than a standard volcano) so tweaking is needed if you want a different one. The other stuff… it’s okay. You get what you pay for; quite a few corners have been cut. Edit: Don't use the provided grease, get some decent ball bearing grease.

Seeing that back cable hanging down I'm sure that was causing your issues. I have a 400x400x500 printer and it's a issue with those cables hitting when it's coming around the back. Make sure they are all held above the x rail. Because you can clearly see it hanging down in your cut in video.

Ender 5 S1 vs Sovol SV06. Which one would you recommend?
@bigmike-

Heads up: The SV06+ runout sensor is effectively worthless, because the gantry doesn't "lock" during a pause... so the moment anything is shifted/moved, it loses it's remembered x-position and ruins the print anyway.

Jim, looks like a great printer for the cost. I just checked - $329, and has linear rods, auto bed leveling and dual Z axis. I think Creality should be worrying, as this seems better than any of the many, many versions of the Ender 3 for the same or lower cost. Hope you get the Prusa Slicer config worked out. I have to disagree a little, if you have a bigger printer, you still can print small things, it doesn't work well the other way!

😂 You're very right! What I meant was that we've already seen little things printed on the Sovol SV06. I wanted to see big things printed on this one! Lol You're definitely right, it's hard to print a large thing on a small printer, if you don't have the space!

I agree, kinda, I realllllllly like the ender 3 S1 pro and the elegoo neptune 3 plus, but the v slot design seems so outdated and linear rods would've pushed it to the next level, really liking what I'm seeing from Sovol in the current generation but may wait a gen or two to adopt so they can hopefully workout some of the little kinks and who knows with more efficient design/manufacturing/part sourcing it could even be more bang for the buck later on.

@thomasscheiblauer9775
Жыл бұрын
@@TheEdgeofTech I believe that @cooperthorne6394 is right, because directly below the failed part is a steep overhang and overhangs tend to become bad when they not get cooled properly and also when you print them too fast because the airflow will not hit them long enough, in particular when you print in spiral mode. It's also clearly visible on the red bucket. The lines above the bad overhang had nothing to stick to properly and dropped down. Usually cooling works best on the side of the model from where the airflow comes and thus directly hits the overhang. This is, why it doesn't show on the whole perimeter.
