Good luck with the marathon :) I’ve also found that a large cycling volume also works well with running. I’ve signed up for the Sydney Marathon but the last 3 weeks i’ve been hit with injury (dodgy Achilles) and a nasty cold. This would be my 7th marathon & i’ve had to readjust my goals for the race. The aim now is to get to the start line & enjoy the day but if I don’t then thats ok too. For my first marathon attempt I had to pull out the night before due to illness, it happens. For anyone who is doing your first marathon, my advice is you gotta role with the punches, embrace the process & don’t push yourself into the red zone on the day. Completing it is a fantastic achievement regardless of your time. On the day it will get warm, so id use the last couple of weeks to do your long runs in the sun to help your body both physically & mentally adjust. Josh, on a side note I think we met the other week cycling home from work up the Pacific Highway. I was riding a Trek Checkpoint with Topeak Pannier Rack & bag’s. We discussed rack options for the daily commute.

Those are some great tips. You raise a good point, alot of people have been training in the middle of winter and have no heat adaption at all. I will defs be doing some more of my runs in the sun and getting that acclimitisation in. I remember this interaction, because I went home and looked at the Checkpoint online hahaha the panniers looked super handy.

What part of Japan are you going to? I am going in December - Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya and then up to Nagano prefecture for skiing to then end of January. A bit worried about having some time off running but the skiing is fantastic. I love your content. You speak well and I love that you don’t use bad language like many other young men who produce running content.

Sounds like you have a pretty big Japan trip planned! For myself, Osaka, Kyoto, Mount Fuji, Tokyo I think the skiing is still keeping you active; worst case stop taking the ski lift and start running back up the slopes hahaha

Great vid! My first marathon as well at Sydney. Nice tip on running When it’s hot- as we train 90% in winter for this with jackets on and stuff like that - have to do those adaptations with few weeks left to the marathon to mimic race day at least without any jacket
@joshkwan

Heat adaption is a massive factor. And something a lot of people last year really did not predict (granted it was a freak occurance)

I’ll be happy with sub 4 hours So 5:40mins/km I think the key will be not to be tempted to smash it out the gates.
