I can't resist a warm, sunny fall day, so I headed to check out CJ Brown Reservoir, in Buck Creek State Park, in Ohio. I was hoping that fishing a little bigger lake, I could capitalize on the fall pattern of schooling bass. I met up with my buddy, Adrian, and we paddled around some, trying some underwater structures I found on Navionics, trying shallow, riprap banks, shallow points...and unfortunately never found the bass. But I did somehow snag a muskie with a chatterbait that was sitting still on the ground. I'm betting he picked up the chatterbait as it sat still, and turned around with it in his mouth (which is what I felt when the rod tugged), and when I went to set the hook, it pulled away from him and across his back on the way back to me, snagging his fin. However it happened, I got to get my hands on my first muskie! I didn't even know there were muskie in CJ Brown! If the sun keeps shining on the weekends, I will keep fishing until ski season starts, so I might still get into one of those fall schools of bass I keep hearing about, and have one of those epic days!
