Cracking tank mate! Amazing to see a mature tank just running along nicely!👌 And how its helped you pay for the hobby too! 👍 Apparently some types of asterinas are good clean up crew but it's always assumed it's the pest type, great video!

Thanks so much for the kind words! Yeah I know there are lots of different types of asterina stars, I have no way of identifying what type these are - but they've never caused me any trouble :)

My first marine tank was a converted freshwater 120l long. I was 16 and had to carry it home on public transport with my mate. It’s was an abomination 😂 I cut so many holes in the lid to make way for T5 ballast units and a skimmer cup. Can’t remember much about the stock but I do remember my first fish was a six line wrasse quickly followed by an algae blenny.

The good old Red Sea Max. That was my first saltwater aquarium too, which was ideal with it being so compact and self contained. It was also one of the reasons why I ended up subscribing to your channel back in the day, when you would occasionally give an update on it.

thats awesome to see, i just got into the hobby last year and the 130 is also my first tank, iv upgraded the light to an ai prime 16, and got a nero 3 circulation pump, and got the upgraded red sea return pump, been looking at upgrading the skimmer but the tock one has such a big collection cup compared to all the Nano skimmer, but the one you have looks perfect for it!
@ParkersReef
3 жыл бұрын
They're great tanks! If I was upgrading the skimmer today, I would go for the Tunze 9001. You could always modify the cup to have a drain that goes to a larger collection container?

Hopefully my Aquatop24 will be a 10 year tank too! All I run is a protein skimmer and pura pad in one of the media chambers and 5 gallon water changes every two weeks. Have two clowns and a peppermint shrimp in it, plus a good clean up crew, just letting it do it’s thing. The clowns were babies, now they are big and healthy. Also, running an AI prime 16HD reef light for corals. Going to change the scape and be done with it. Your tank is awesome, simple but well established!

Wow that some tank you got there! it's a dream come true to have something running for a decade now, out of curiosity, why is it that you still perform the water change, I know it's good husbandry, yet it's been over a decade now I hope the system can take care of itself without a water change and just can survive with the top off? Perhaps the anemone is the reason you still perform the water change, either way, it's a great masterpiece! Excellent job, happy tanking :)
@ParkersReef
2 жыл бұрын
water changes are a cheap and easy way of ensuring the tank gets access to all the elements it needs and gives it an avenue for nutrient export. As I don't do any dosing or have any meaningful method of exporting nutrients in the system, it works quite well

Hi Parker Glen 🇬🇧 love the videos keep up the good work pal . Question I have a 4ft mixed reef I have a small sulphur reactor as I have high nitrate it holds around 1kg of sulphur it works but but I am not sure how fast I should be able to have the tap open if I take it over a few drips a second it just seems to put the same level of nitrate out any advice on how to manage my nitrate. Tank is doing OK other than this thank parker all the best withe the videos keep them coming Glen Yorkshire and love the hayup 🤣
@ParkersReef
3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate! Is it recirculating or just pass through? You want to speed the effluent up as fast as you vacant whilst maintaining near zero nitrate in the effluent. If you cannot speed it up enough to impact the tank, you will need a larger reactor
