Its so refreshing to see a man talking about Fibromyalgia. We need more men stepping forward to talk about it. The amount of information and videos online that just focus on the women is frustrating. Ive been officially diagnosed for 3 years now but suspect ive had it a hell of alot longer

Yes. I have read that a common cause of fibromyalgia is trauma. Big trauma. Family Scapegoating Abuse FSA is a major cause of fibromyalgia with accompanying complex post traumatic stress disorder C-PTSD which is caused by trauma especially in childhood over decades. God bless you here. Bess in Yorkshire England.

I'm so glad more and more men are talking openly about fibromyalgia. Doctors can't keep dismissing the symptoms and pain as female issues. I wonder how many men get referred to psychiatrists after reporting their fibromyalgia symptoms. 🤔

They shouldn’t dismiss it even if no man ever had it. 35F with fibro and I wish anyone who dismisses it could have it for just a week (or even a day because most couldn’t handle it) and they would know that it’s real and awful

Hi James, thanks for sharing. My fibro began slowly but I’m sure it was triggered by my husbands death and then a year later I had another traumatic experience when a close family member stole a lot of money from me. The betrayal was too much and I began to experience the pain and fatigue which took years to be a fibromyalgia diagnosis. It’s a hard illness for friends and family to understand which makes things worse. I feel for you and I admire your courage to speak out. ❤

You are absolutely right! I have lived with fibromyalgia for 30 years. It is so easy to think aches and pains are fibromyalgia. I ended up having a knee replacement , hip replacement and shoulder surgery all within 12 months due to osteoarthritis and ligament damage that I had assumed was fibromyalgia.

Hi James, Thanks for sharing your story and experiences. Like you, I’ve been in pain every day for 7 years now, but I have no diagnosis other than “chronic pain”. I never realised that emotional trauma (like death of a loved one) could be a starting point for fibro, that’s really interesting. Again, thanks for sharing, and wishing you the best.

My first symptoms were fatigue and intense pain in my neck and upper back between my shoulder blades, which then began to radiate down my left arm and into my jaw so I went to the emergency room and had a full cardiac work up done to rule out cardiac issues, that was all perfect... and then from there on it was a cascade effect of many other fibromyalgia symptoms, weakness in muscles, I lost a ton of weight due to anxiety and stress with new job and home life issues, then came all the testing, blood work multiple times checking for everything under the sun, neurological scans to check for MS, stroke etc then finally rheumatologist diagnosed fibromyalgia & osteoarthritis (age related wear and tear) I also have IBS type symptoms, interstitial cystitis that randomly flares and hurts insanely bad, as well as chronic headaches all as a result of fibromyalgia dysfunction

Mine started with anxiety, then IBS, then neck, shoulder pain. This went on for 10 years plus lower leg and forearm pain. Within a few weeks I developed back pain that gradually moved down into my hips, legs, feet, arms, upper back, head... then overnight - BOOM! crazy night sweats and all over burning/fatigue/headaches/dizziness/insomnia/tinnitus.

Hi James…it’s been a while, but after 30 years of having Fibro and all the symptoms…yes you should definitely get tests ! But after getting cleared from anything else…..STRESS , GRIEF, ABUSE, FEAR etc will bring on Fibromyalgia! After MANY years, the best advise I can give is to ‘ADDRESS’ your stress with a counselor, deal with where it’s coming from, let go of TOXIC people, stressful situations causing anxiety! The more counseling ,massage, reflexology, meditation, Yoga etc…the better you will feel. All these things WILL help your pain… Hope this helps James. 😘🙏xxxx

Hello! My name is Liz. I too suffer with chronic pain, however have never had a formal diagnosis. I've tried Softwave therapy from one of my Chiropractor, for my knee. I had that pain for 15 years. Since it completely went away, I wanted to do my low back and shoulders. When I inquired about it later, he told me that he sold the unit. The machine costs about 40,000 dollars. So, I'm going to another Chiropractor soon that has this Softwave machine. If you could find a practice that has one you should give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Hope you will find this helpful. Take care Liz

My first symptoms were after I had 2 major operations 30 years ago and radiotherapy. The first few years weren't that bad now it's on a different level. It as progressed so much at times unbearable. One of the worst symptoms for me is the insomnia. Looking back I was having vague symptoms way before this after losing my young daughter to cancer. Unless you suffer from fibro you have no idea how debilitating it can be. X

My skin didn't itch but I'd have parts of my skin feel like a sunburn. Nothing visible on my skin but even my clothes would hurt. The sunburn sensation would last for days and pop back up in different locations.

I was young when I showed small signs. But I would go to the park. Later that night I would wake up crying because of the pain. My mom would have to rub my legs. But my traumatic event was my period. I was in pain but the fatigue man.
