A little Arizona trivia - the saguaro cactus is the tallest cactus in America and it is only found in southern Arizona, a small area in California, and the Mexican state of Sonora. It lives to be 150-200 years old and grows its first arm at age 75-100.

I've also noticed that the Saguaro cactus doesn't grow above 3000 ft. elevation. Driving down from Flagstaff, AZ. on I-17 you won't see any until you pass the 3000 ft. elevation sign going down a steep grade. Then they are all over the place for miles as far as you can see.

I think people are always surprised when they first see Arizona. I was born and grew up here, left for 20 plus years due to the military, and then returned once I retired. When you talk about to individuals who have never been, they immediately default to the ‘desert’ idea. But it’s always a more ‘Sahara’ style of desert. There’s so much beauty and diversity in the bio domes here. Even after all my travels (27 countries on 4 continents) Arizona is still one of my top three as far as pure natural beauty goes.

You captured some really beautiful scenery in this video. Your love of nature comes through in your travel vlogs. They make mezcal and tequila from agave plants, not whiskey. The process is pretty complicated. They cut off the pointy parts of the leaves, then roast it in a big oven, then extract the juice, ferment it, and distill it. The holes in the sides of the saguaro cacti are from birds. Two species - Gila woodpeckers and gilded flickers - hollow out the holes and make their nests there. It gives them protection from predators, because the cacti are covered with spines, making it hard to climb up.

Yee haw!!! Your back in America, the sunset state 🏜️ Happy Spring time Marie Knowing it's always been your wish to go out to the wild west it did cross my mind but I didn't think it would be so soon , seize the moment & go for it I always say, you picked the best day for Irish luck to do it. ☘️ Looks like it was quite a journey just making it there, the night views from above were wonderful & all that way to phoenix & mystical Sedona by car. The Arizonian landscape so awesome to drive through with its canyon temples larger than life, it's so cute the 🐕 got to come along to. Coconino park has such impressive panoramic , views so much going for it, it's lava flows, tallest peaks & the Mormon lake, there's always a surprise around every corner, I'm so pleased you choose to go there with your friend who's like a guide a fountain of knowledge, what would that whiskey taste like. It's been a marvelous start to your new Adventure , I hope you take time out to enjoy the beautiful sunset , starry-eyed nights & desert blooms & bring back some amazing gems if it's allowed & souvenirs. I don't know if your still there or not but there's a fair share of ghost towns worth visiting & Tombstone a must see with its gunfight that I think they act out everyday , you can also ride a stagecoach ,the birdcage theatre with it's bullet holes & the outlaws of boot hill cemetery a bit spooky but worth a visit. I hope you had time while you were in phoenix to visit the diamond backs ⚾ at chase field stadium, the Odysea 🐠 Aquarium & the Scottsdale/ musical instruments museums where they have Elvis's uniform, the rosson / David & Gladys 🏠 I also wanted to mention the butterfly wonderland but there probably still closed. I found out recently theirs wild 🐴 Mustangs in Tonto forest & the lower salt river valley east of the city. On a finishing note I'm wondering if you'll ever saddle up with your Stenson & poncho riding off into the ⛅ Thanks Marie, liked the cool western music looking forward to what happens next & the big one the grand canyon, take good care of yourself, Adiós 🤠 💛✌️

Hi Marie!! This really hits home with me, as a Southwesterner who has been to Arizona lots of times! Your pictures on the way to the Paris airport were crazy, with all the rioting mess in the streets 😲😢, but I am so glad you were safe! You landed in NYC, familiar to you now, and finally made it to Albuquerque, a city I have been to for college recruiting and visiting friends many times. You had already saw a Mustang 😂, and your night view was lovely. I am so glad you had a friend there to drive you to Arizona, and even with 2 puppies you could enjoy ! That drive is so familiar through the desert, with mountains in the background, and with trains going by - I drove through scenes like that so often🥰, and I love seeing you enjoy that wonderful day! I love the impressive stone formations you see in the desert US, and the TEEPEE shopping stop is classic there 😁. Indian cliff dwellings abound in New Mexico and Arizona, and also other western states - they are so impressive to me. Route 66 is SO famous - you got to experience it - YAY! Those cyclists are also common to see in the western deserts. Wow, the Lost Dutchman State Park with beautiful snowy mountains 😊 is a wonderful sight! (Snakes everywhere in Arizona, lol!) And you went to Oak Creek Canyon (North of Sedona), hiking that West Fork Trail Hike (top 10 US trails - WOW!)! You looked like you were ready for the hike Marie 🤗! It is so cool there, and I love the names of the places you saw (Call of the Canyon, Coconino National Forest, Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness 😄) !! What a magnificent trail you experienced, with lovely forests and fast stream crossings/bridges, the beautiful sheer cliffs, and SO much snow 😲🤗💕! Those canyon cliffs and stones are so colorful (orange, red, grey, silver, tan, etc.) and the puppies enjoyed the hike as much as you did I think (cute jackets they wore too) 😉😇. All the various formations you saw, the layered sandstone cliffs with overhangs and crevices to see and explore, evergreens, mesquite bushes, various cacti, were all so amazing Marie!!! You look so happy hiking 🤗🥰🥰❗ Your friend pointed out trees growing on the rocks (that is so impressive), and also that unreal 6 inches to 12 inches per day growth of that cactus that is used to make, did Bob say, whiskey? Then on to Phoenix, with a Black Mustang along the way and Saguaro growing alongside the road (that big one was really something to behold in your video!!!), and even Palm trees in Phoenix, lol 😉🤗. Then you finished that off with Mexican food for dinner - YAY - I love it, being from El Paso on the Mexico/Texas border! What a first day in the US this time Marie, and one you could enjoy after your flights where you did not get sick! I am just so happy for you my sweet friend 🥰❤! I am so looking forward to the rest of your amazing Southwestern US trip - thank you so much for this first video, and you take care of Marie, please ❤🙏🥰❣

On a clear night you can see amazing constellations, shooting stars, meteor showers, planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus), satelites, and an occaional space shuttle. Many areas make outdoor lighting night-sky friendly, regulating the types of lights that can be used. Haven’t watched the video yet but if not too late, so many places to see. Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Monument Valley, Arches, Zion, and Bryce National Parks. Still early enough in the season to beat the worst crowds. EDIT: Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona were amazing. Sadly its been 30 years since I've been there! Glad you're back in the US seeing the other side of it (literally)!.

What a surprise, Marie returned, Now I am positive there is a God. I had unsubscribed last year to all the channels that I was a member of due to a horrible virus that I did not want Frenchtastic to get and am in the dark on her travels, etc. I miss her music video Reactions but maybe She can do both, What I mean is when leaving France play Coming to America by Neil Diamond, The Lights of Albuquerque by Jim Glaser, Rt. 66 by the Manhatten transfer, By the time I get to Phoenix by Glen Campbell as your background music. Thanks for passing through Albuquerque, I wish I had known you were coming here. As usual We all Love you and want you to return often.🎉

Can’t wait for the next video. Keep up the good work!!!😎👍👍👍

Welcome back, Marie! Glad to see you are stretching your legs out west! You definitely got to see a beautiful part of the country at a good time, before it got super hot all the time. And you are correct about the dogs. All dogs are puppies, no matter how old they may be!
