So the line from Change of Heart “you used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone” references the line in Robbers “she had a face straight out of a magazine.” And the line “i never found love in the city” references the lyrics in the City. They do this a lot either with the lyrics or using the same/similar sounds. The more you listen to them, the more references you’ll notice.

Funny sidefact: Matty was in the studio with 1D to work with them on some stuff, and he showed them „the sound“ as a suggestion.. but the song didn’t worked out for 1D so he‘d stick to his own thing..

a lot of the 1975’s song lyrics u don’t really need to know but i will say they have songs like for example “it’s not living if it’s not with you” and that songs about heroin. matty had an addiction to drugs which if u listened to the lyrics in some of their songs you’ll see it’s mentioned a lot. there’s also UGH! which is about cocaine. in “part of the band” he actually mentions heroin, xanax and coke and that’s a new song but at the end of the song he talks about how long he’s been sober. (since like 2017 or 2018) there’s songs like “if i believe you” which is about religion which is something he talks about a bit in his songs. nana and is there somebody who can watch u have pretty sad meanings behind them. human too kind of just talks about being human and some of mattys mistakes love it if it made has a pretty good meaning behind it too not necessarily like a sad meaning but kind of about the state of the world. i always wanna die (sometimes) is one of my favs and is also pretty sad. but yeah majority of songs are just fun to vibe too and matty can be really just funny in his lyrics sometimes but he has a serious side as well. one of my fav songs is robbers which is just about a toxic relationship kind of like a bonnie and clyde situation. it’s a vibe tho and fun to sing IMO.

The fact u noticed that Change Your Ticket sounds like Girls is hilarious because supposedly 1D asked The 1975 for permission to release the song because the guitar part sounds almost exactly the same and I think they might have said no and they released it anyways... something like that. But yes even 1D were aware that it sounded like Girls 😂

Lol yesss they brought him in to ask him to write a song but they actually already wrote change your ticket and wanted him to approve it & then he didn’t cause the guitar was too similar to girls and they released it anyways

You should look out for all the really subtle things they put into their music! For example, in 'She Way Out' (in the self-titled album), the first line is, "With a face from a movie scene, or a magazine, know what I mean?" Also referencing the 'Robbers' line. My favorite detail has to be that in the self-titled album (deluxe edition) they put one of their best songs... at the end of their song! After about 3 minutes of silence in the song 'You,' they've got another tune! You should check it out (hint hint)! Happy to hear you liked the band and their music!
