So glad you could see it in time to bring Zephyr to a clinic. It's always wise to check the umbilic. And as You're a vet, you know that most foals have diarrhea because the milk change after 10 days of giving birth, because the mare is in heat. It must be frustrating for Zephyr to stay in his box for 2/3 weeks. He was running so fast and had a lot of fun. You're teaching the little colt many essential things with love and patience. Hope he can run again in two weeks, if all went well. 🥰
@HollyLenahanSJ

Yes a lot of foals will have mild diarrhoea due to changes in the gastrointestinal flora around 2 weeks of age. However Zephy had a high temperature, was dull, lethargic and not drinking - this is absolutely not normal and if anyone sees their foal like this, they should definitely call their vet.

He is a beauty. So glad that you got his medical issues sorted out. The silver lining is is that he’s getting early training with picking up his feet, etc., so he’ll already know that and remember it when you get back from Australia the next time.

Zephy is adorable and certainly i learning quickly. But Wellbeck - she is such a star! I love the clip where Zephyr is still somewhat unsure about the training, she looks back to check on him, sees you and is "ah, it's Holly so all is good" and then looks dead into the camera and then turns to Fiona as if to say "oh, and she is videoing again" :)

Oh Holly, he is simply gorgeous. You must be over the moon delighted. Phew! those long legs are strong legs! In that video of his first time out with his mom, it's so clear that he loves to move; you can just see how thrilled he is at his own athleticism. I mean -- he loves being alive! And yeah, this one might not be your little teddy bear. Hahaha. He's a lot of horse. Hope you keep updating us. I cannot even tell you how much of a charge I get from watching him -- because you can tell -- he's the real thing -- a good one. JV

That’s one lucky baby having a vet mummy! Gosh these foals, we must be mental to have them haha. Our mare retained her placenta and we were so stressed, we’d decided not to put her back in foal. Well guess who got dropped off at stud today 😂

Slow and Steady, Holly. Look for the end game. Slow and steady will always be your friend if you have a slightly flighty foal. Don't knock it. Zephyr is already showing you what his end personality will be, HOT!! Which translates to, fast and careful in the show ring, when you train him up later. Thanks for the update. Love from your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
