Aberdeen # 6 with a slip float and a tiny split shot. Or weightless and let it drift to the bottom. If they aren’t biting go deeper and further out progressively. Bee moth larvae=wax worms

Also, if the bluegill swallows the hook, leave the hook in and don’t try to remove it. It has a much greater chance of living if you sacrifice the hook and just bite the line.

Catfish Dave, you sure stood in there for this adventure, endured rain and cold. I sure was wishing that you had a rain poncho tucked in your boat, sure would be a good idea.Your weather forecasters are like ours out here in the PNW, can't count on them for nothing, even with all their high tech capabilities. Thank you for another great adventure where we get to ride along with you.

SE Michigan, the biggest are Muskie, caught a 5 to 6 lb channel cat where the black river dumps into the St. Clair River in Port Huron, and busted a 10 to 12 lb flathead in the N. Channel by Lake St. Clair. Might get lucky if you find a dam with deep holes to fish, or go to the west side of the state as mentioned previously.

Here is a suggestion. Use cricket hooks. Very long shank. Take a pair of needlenose...bend the barb down. They may swallow a few hooks but you can get the hook out easier with a long shank hook with the barb bent down. Happy bluegilling!'

I grew up in Knoxville and we used to go up the French Broad when the white bass were running and when we wanted to eat some catfish. We would go up by the Little Pigeon River and get a few 6-9 pound flatheads to take home once a year or so. Good eating! When the white bass were running we would also catch skipjack. We didn't know what skipjack were. We just called them green shad. Memories.

Fished that river hard growing up in Carolina. Caught piles of big cats more than enough flatheads 30lbs and up till the big chemical spill that wiped them out. That was a sad day! Best bait up there was horny heads. Irresistible to the cats and big ole tiger muskie. Big blast catching sauger spawning up from Douglas in April. Year round boat loads of real nice smallies. Friend of the family that ran a coal yard back in the day got his coal over in Tn. Last time he stopped off in Newport for breakfast got robbed and murdered and thrown off the I40 bridge in the river there at the lake. Yeah.... Got a little history with that ole river.
