As a cellist that has been playing for 8.5 years and is currently attending conservatory, that was impressive. Getting those harmonics to sound that clean, especially the false harmonics, is extremely challenging. Props to whoever this is for only missing one of them.

idek what a harmonic is, nevermind the fact that there are apparently false ones?
@rileyrath5627
9 ай бұрын
@w0cluvr harmonics are sounded by lightly touching the string on the intervals of the harmonic series (8va, 5th, 8va, 3rd, etc) False harmonics a created by pinning the bottom note (usually with thumb) and touching the harmonic a 4th above which sounds as 2 8vas higher than the pinned note. False harmonics are very temperamental and difficult to sound correctly, especially in the higher registers.

Once you've learned it and you have to use your ear to determine whether it's in tune, muscle memory kicks in. If you haven't played for a while, intonation goes, but with a little time and practice it'll come back. It's cello not chello. Yes, frets make it easy.

Some constructive criticism: please do not sacrifice intonation for speed. Yes, 98 percent of the world can't tell the difference. The violinist, Schlomo Mintz (that's his name, ironically) plays very fast but I would say that his fingers land on the right spots of the fingerboard only about 60 percent of the time. And he is famous and does very well. So disregard my advice if you wish. What I would suggest is to play the same piece as slowly as possible. Use a tuner that is equipped with a needle that is easy to see. As you play each note, verify that your finger is in the most accurate place for each particular note. The needle should be wavering right down the middle (this also depends on how advanced your tuner is). When you find the spots on the fingerboard where you tend to be inaccurate, play the note just before the note where there is an issue, and then play the problem note. Make sure you relearn that particular interval, or spacing on the fingerboard. Being a little sharp is not as bad a being a little flat. Less people can detect something that is out of tune when it is a little sharp, so this is the "smaller sin." The singer, Carreras, is a perfect example of someone going sharp all the time and nobody notices. Also, if you can play the whole piece super slow and accurate, you will Really know the piece. Lastly, remember that it is only people who care that will take the time to criticize in a nice way, in an effort to help.
