Hi Grace! Can’t agree w you more…start the declutter process while you can comfortably think about your stuff way, way in advance. Last minute decisions are stressful and can easily lead to poor choices. A no spend challenge for a year sounds intense- how about starting small and steady and doing a month at a time? I think that’s a realistic and viable goal! Good luck w everything!!!!

I feel like a month wouldn't root out the deep seeded issues though... call me crazy, but after hearing her story in the book I feel like doing at ~least~ 6 months for the challenge are necessary to truly rewire my brain LOL

I wish I had your sense of awareness and goals when I was 24! I’m twice your age but my values at this age align with yours so I find your channel very inspiring. Very random coming from a stranger but I’m so excited for you and what your future will bring and truly wish you and Ray all the best. You got this! PS - New Zealand is top of my list of places to visit! Thanks for sharing 😊

Love your videos! I’m currently doing a no buy month to start and then plan on going as long as possible. For me, I have to do short term first so I don’t get down on myself if I mess up. I can be a perfectionist lol. You have a good head on your shoulders. You will figure it out as you go!

Not at all boring to listen to your thoughts. And what a beautiful plan to move to New Zealand. Will love to see your journey towards your goal. I’m also really interested what you‘re doing in your new job. Is it in a theatre? Would be nice to hear some more about that. Have a good week.

Yes!!! I've tried no-buys many times... and haven't done well, but I think I need to plan better. It would be awesome to do a watch along with you in prepping and planning as well as actively doing it

honestly my ideal situation is to create a video or two prepping for it at the end of this year and then have people join along on the challenge!!

I’m moving from the Midwest to California in a week and couldn’t be more excited! Definitely would love to move to another country that aligns more with my values, but one step at a time :) the main thing holding me back is money and family!

I just want to say I love your videos! Definitely feel like I am starting to be in a similar place in my decluttering journey as well… it’s always nice to be able to hear others perspectives on the process! Can I ask where you got your safety razor? I’ve always been interested in making the switch but have been a bit daunted by it and not sure where to find a good replacement to my disposable ones :)
@gracenevitt
Жыл бұрын
thank you so much!! and unfortunately I got my safety razor on amazon (I try to avoid shopping on there as much as possible). most safety razors you find are going to be pretty sturdy and metal and durable though!! my exact one came in a bunch of colors and this was the link for it: www.amazon.com/dp/B099QT6D4J?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I will say, I haven't used it for long so I don't know if it holds up really well or not yet! the reviews seemed to be good though so I'm hoping for the best. my only advice is, don't shave in a rush. safety razors are different than plastic ones so just get used to it before going crazy bc you may cut yourself!

I'm what I call a minimalist for minimal harm, which means I'm vegan, only get clothing and technology second hand as much as humanly possible, and keep all shopping to a minimum in general. I don't care about the aesthetics or not being attached to objects or not having clutter so much because there's no moral concern about that, that's all just personal preference.

I would say I started from a similar perspective !! I have made a lot of decisions in my life based on how environmentally friendly they are. sadly had to become pescatarian for health reasons :( but I'm the same way in terms of buying almost everything second hand (or new if I know it will last me a really long time) and keeping shopping to a minimum. sometimes I buy a little extra if I'm going through a hard time so that's why a no buy challenge is interesting to me to try haha

I don't understand why you call it "extreme climate/weather". I thought having 4 seasons is normal 😅

well, as a girl that grew up in California and didn't need anything more than a sweatshirt during the winter, I went from 1.5 seasons to 4 😅

@@gracenevitt I would call the NY climate extreme! I grew up in London and live in Aus - a summer's day in NYC can be like where I live in the tropics whereas -20C in winter with frozen pipes and everything shut down due to blizzards is the coldest I've ever been :D
@gracenevitt

it technically is classed as extreme for that reason!! super hot summers and freezing freezing winters

One content creator has five tops only .She declutters one top a week and replaces it the next.Her house is lovely but if you have out buildings full of clutter it can be. Don’t be like this content creator. Have what you need the rest is greed.

Hi! I'm new to your channel. Just wanted to pop in and say that I thought about having 4 nail colors. One for each season maybe but in those little essie bottles or a clean brand and taking them with me to get a manicure (being visually impaired makes it hard to do them myself lol) once or twice a month. Also what could I do with my unwanted makeup (used) that would keep it out of the landfill. Does Sephora or other beauty stores have recycle programs that you know of? Thank you in advance and I am enjoying your video. I definitely need to embrace a more slow minimal lifestyle, my husband is a natural minimalist and I feel like less is more calming. Work in progress for sure.

sadly I haven't found any place that takes old make-up unless you got it from a store that had a recycling program. you can send in old mascara wands to Wands for Wildlife, but other than that, sadly all that make-up was realistically headed for the landfill the second it was made and purchased. the best thing you can do is throw it out and be more mindful in the future... sadly that's all we can do as minimalists. bite the bullet with all the stuff we get rid of at once (that seems like a lot) and then never have that amount of stuff again. it's all worth it in the long run even though it's tough to do in the moment. I totally understand. 😩
