Get where your GF is coming from mate, my wife isn’t keen on me riding either. The thing with me is, I ride it on a Sunday mornings with limited traffic, get good protective gear and ride within your limits. If you do all these things, you can limit possibilities but not erase them. It’s hard situation, but do what is best for you.

I’ll give you this piece of advice. My dad was an amazing rider, riding bikes since he was 7 yo. Snow? Freezing temps? Rain? No matter what he rode bikes like it was nothing. He got diagnosed with Alzheimers disease 9 years ago. Seeing a man going from doing wheelies to basically a plant is horrifying. My 2c, life’s to short, do what you want to do and fuck all the rest. Go for it. Fuck around and find out or die trying.

My missus said I wasn’t getting a bike, turns out I have one now and have been riding for the last 3 years. She wasn’t stoked on me getting it, but I’ve made sure to let her know I’m being as safe as possible, all the gear all the time and I never pressure her to get on the bike with me. She still hates it, but she’s knows it’s something I love doing.

The bottom line is she has the right to not be with someone who does something that gives her sleepless nights. You have the right to ride a motorcycle. You just have to choose. Her stance is completely fair. I think if you didn't already have your bike by now it wasn't that important to you in the first place.

So the thing is this really ends up being a matter of priorities. I think we all know where Hero stands. Where does our viewer stand? Personally, if my wife did not support me getting a motorcycle, I would not ride one. She makes me happy, she helps take the stress away. Is your relationship in a state which, if prevented from riding, you could still be happy? Dedication to motorcycling can range an entire spectrum from "just a hobby" to "ride or die". Which do you think you'll be? Your girlfriend has cause to be scared, regardless of the circumstances of the accident, she lost someone she loved on a motorcycle. Those emotions aren't likely to change even if she did let you ride. If you're seeking a long term relationship, that kind of worry can put a strain on you both. I would suggest being open with her that you're thinking about it and letting her know that you care deeply about how she feels and ask her to give you the same consideration. Again, it relies on your priorities. I choose to make my decisions with family in mind. It's not wrong for you to choose your own path, but please, take your time.

never let a woman dictate the actions that you want to make as a man. she has a valid reason for not wanting you to ride but maybe you’re not the one for her if you really want to ride and she doesn’t want you to

Riding a motorcycle can be done safely but you have to follow the rules of the road and stop acting like a stupid squid. This means stop treating the state hiway like it's your own personal race track.

Her fear is understandable. A lot can happen, and motorcycles don't offer a lot of protection. It does show, she does care about you. But choosing to live in fear is not a way to live life. It will lead to misery, and whole slew of other personal internal conflict, that just isn't fun in the long term. I have met people who are just down right angry all the time, because they are controlled by fear. And one persons fear, should not control the path of others. If that were the case, we would have no military at all.

My thing about this issue is no matter how good of a rider you are, or the equipment you have-you’ll never be able to calculate or know ahead of time what all the stupid people around you in cars do. Not saying that doesn’t mean you should never ride, but unfortunately we’re surrounded by idiots.
