Great review Tony. Mine looks a slightly different version to yours as the pump sack on mine is quite a bit smaller and doesn’t double up as a stuff sack. I’m looking forward to trying it out next month. Hopefully it will do the job for me

Hi Anthony, thank you. My mat is several years old now, So they have change a bit. But I’m sure yours will be fine. I definitely think they are more comfortable than the Thermarest and cheaper, but they are a little heavier. However, I think the extra weight is worth it. I don’t always sleep well in small tents, so comfort is key to getting a good night sleep. Being a side sleeper the vertical baffles suit me better. Looking forward to seeing you first wild camp, good luck. 🏕🏕

@@TFSOutdoors performed amazingly, ridiculously warm and very comfy for a side sleeper. I got the UL LW Winter for about £130 and couldn't recommend it enough

I met a girl recently who puts her sleep mat inside a sleeping bag liner. Helps knock out some of the noise apparently. Great review, I'm going to grab one tomorrow.

Thank you for your comments. It’s a coincidence that you mentioned about putting it in a liner. Somebody spoke to me last weekend and said exactly the same thing. I hope you get on with well. Good luck

The video is great, but I tought this model had a incorporated pump so I’ll keep looking for a new model

Thank you for your comment. The pump is separate but does come with it. It can double up as a dry bag, so you can use it for your sleeping bag/quilt or cloths etc. I'm not sure if Exped make one with an integrated pump but I know other company do. Its all about what works for you. Its important that you get what you want, good luck.

Great, my Buddy found me a model that has the integrated pump cost around 130 euros but easy to blow and easy to deflate great product

Great vid tks. Is it noisy? Like a crisp packet noisy?

Thank you for your comment Mark. It is a little noisy, but it doesn’t have that crispy rustle like a thermarest. In my personal opinion, I think it’s quieter and a better,. My son has the thermarest and loves it, but it’s not for me.

Howdy Sprout, I was all excited about this mat until you mentioned the R value. It have the Trekology UL80 which is promoted as R 1.6 - 2...but it is freezing on a cold night. Does the Exped really retain more heat? I’m a cold sleeper and planning a WHW trip end of May but need something more substantial than the UL80. Thanks for the review.

Hi Mr Gump, I took it on the WHW and it was Okay. I’m a cold sleeper also. On the last night of WHW it was a little frosty in the morning and I was cold during the night, I think it would have been around 2 or 3 degrees. I think it also depends on what the rest of your sleep system is. Personally I take any R value of mats and sleeping bag or quilt ratings with a pinch of salt. My bag and quilt both say they go down to -6 but being a cold sleeper I don’t believe that I could be warm anywhere near - 6 . I don’t think I would be confident that the mat would be warm enough for me if it was -3 outside., which is its limit. But then I don’t tend to winter camp, I wimp out and go in my campervan instead. 😀

Really thorough review, I have the same mat in the wide version, I prefer it to the NeoAir Xlite I used to have. I paired it last weekend with a UGQ 10F quilt, it got down to nearly freezing, but I was warm enough. Good tip about the dangly thing near the inflate valve, I wondered what that was for :)

Thank you , I almost got the wide version and sometimes wish I had. I see that a lot of people are using the UGQ quilts. I have the Thermarest Vesper quilt which is supposed to go down to -6 , but I’m a cold sleeper so I’m not sure I would cope with that sort of temperature with that set up.

Sorry I meant 20F quilt. The UGQ quilts are fantastic imo
