But it can predispose you to cancer, accelerates aging, and should be not taken lightly. It is a good idea to avoid getting it and spreading it. If it there was an actual cure, and it was not constantly necessary to treat it with antivirals that lose effectiveness after a while, and you have to constantly change them out, it would not be such a big deal.

Hey man. I just saw your video and i was struck by how my story is the opposite of your experience. I am a 45 years old male from Greece and was diagnosed back in the summer of 2014. I never had any symptoms whatsoever(cd4 were above i think 1200) and i found out i was positive after my break up with my then partner, who was a married father of 2, whom i trusted and was the very first man i had unprotected sex. So after the break up, while picking up my pieces and trying to make a new start, i thought i should do a routine check up as i often did. And that was it. My diagnosis felt like the whole world had collapsed on me. I never did drugs, i never had unprotected sex, i never smoked, i was 5 times a week at the gym, would travel all the time, and was successful in almost all aspects of my life. That day everything stopped. I knew i had some kind of mild depression before that too (being a homosexual man in Greece has a toll on you) but after my diagnosis, i went into the darkest place there can be. And im still there, unfortunately. Of course, i stopped traveling, stopped having sex, quit the gym, quit life i guess. Of course, i thought of ending it all numerous times but the only thing holding me is my love for my mother. I would never want to hurt her and me "leaving" would devastate her. So i fight every day to just float. Even writing this feels futile but i have to do it in order to feel a bit alive. So yeah, our lives were totally opposite before our diagnosis and are again totally opposite and we just had a meeting point. Funny ha?

Hi Peter. Scrolling through KZitem and came across your video. It sounded like you went through hell before being diagnosed. I am a 64 year old gay guy in Newcastle upon Tyne and was diagnosed in January 2008 when I was 48. I was very sensible and always practiced safe sex but one night I went out, got pissed, brought a guy back and wasn't safe!! Can't remember the timeline now but about a week later I noticed this slight blotchy rash on my chest. Nothing else. Then after about 2-3 weeks I was becoming so weak. So much so I remember having to go home from work one day. I was a mental health nurse. Honestly I felt so weak it was unbelievable. The chest rash hadn't got worse but it was still there. At the back of my mind I thought I had an STD although didn't think HIV though. Went to my local STD clinic and was tested for everything. Turned out I was HIV but also had syphilis too. And it was syphilis which was the cause of the chest rash. I think if it hadn't been for the chest rash I wouldn't have gone for testing and HIV would have increasingly got worse. Thankfully it didn't. Can't remember my viral load and CD4 count at the time but my consultant thought I'd possibly been positive for about 6 months. I'm now undetectable and have been for a number of years. I really do admire your honesty. My brother and sister know and 3 close friends but it's not something I've ever felt comfortable telling people which makes me angry with myself. I remember a doctor telling me once that if he had to choose between being HIV or diabetes he'd choose HIV every time because once controlled you can live a "normal" life whereas diabetes is so much more limiting and damaging to your body. I'll never forget that. I take 2 tablets at night and all's good. We're just lucky that we live in a country where treatment is not only readily available but also free. Once again great video and I wish you well. 😊

I was diagnosed in 2006 and didn’t start meds until 2008. My doctor didn’t want me on anything until my numbers dropped. I believe that did permanent damage to me because my fatigue is still something I deal with today on meds. The fatigue I have is major. I cannot go long without a good nights sleep. If I do not get 8-10 hrs rest, and I’m still fatigued, I can get sick. So now I just chill out and take life without added stress. I try to live my life as stress free as possible. Do what I need to and also be blessed knowing there was a time those diagnosed with HIV didn’t live long at all. We truly do live in a great time in medicine

I'm doing good thank you ❤. I think in life when we face difficult times they're not sent to destroy us but to strengthen us. I believe they shape us into the best version of who we are and im really glad you're doing good!. I'm hiv negative but i also know that hiv has no boundaries and that no one is immune from it. Through people like yourself telling your story i hope it helps other people open up to others about their own diagnosis. Im reading through some comments and i think for anyone who judges another person who is hiv + they could find themselves or someone they love in the same situation someday. People like that need to understand that it's a virus, not a moral judgement and that it can effect anyone regardless of their lifestyle or behaviour. Keep doing what your doing.. because you're doing great!! ❤❤❤

For the second half of 2019 I began losing weight as I was experiencing loss of appetite. I am 198cm and weighed about 197 - 200lbs, my weight was down to 178lbs so my weight loss was starting to be noticeable. I would also get a rash on my torso that would come and go and experiencing fatigue, mouth sores were also beginning pop up. I was in a deep state of denial as I took these occurrences individually. It wasn’t until I started to experience night sweats that I began thinking that maybe I had hiv. When my labs came back I wasn’t surprised with the news as I had visited saunas years earlier and engaged in bareback sex. I began antiviral treatment in January 2020 and it wasn’t until November of that year that the fatigue was gone completely, my appetite returned and I was gaining weight, I started feeling totally fine. Today I weigh around 220lbs, I take my meds, I’m healthy and grateful that I got sick at a time when there are effective treatments, if not I would be long dead by now.

I admire your honesty. I wish you all the best with your diagnosis. Please try to remember that HIV is no longer the death sentence it once was, especially for people who live in developed countries. I know persons who have lived with HIV for over 30 years and are still alive. It is important though to distinguish between HIV and AIDS. HIV is the infection which in turn lowered your immunity, allowing you to suffer from the opportunistic diseases/infections which you experienced . This is called AIDS. Just a side note, 340 is really very low. Take care.

Went to doctors on 4 separate occasions before being taken seriously. Fatigue and feeling nausea. Fortunately I'd been recently infected and on medication straight away. However because I was tested straightaway I didn't have any other symptoms. Was in hospital for about 3 weeks , every test, CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, all was good. Now one small daily tablet , keep fit, eat well and lead a full enjoyable life. When it comes to HIV ignorance isn't bliss. Take your sexual health seriously, test regularly. HIV has no impact on my life today, i'm undetectable , on Biktarvy, and I lead a full healthy life. Yes, to begin with your world falls apart, but once you understand and educate yourself, you've been given a second chance, I dodged the bullet

Main things I had, were fatigue and started to lose breath during sleep, almost like was dying. No rash but skin would get dry very quickly and swollen lymph nodes (which made my GP ask certain questions, which lead to getting a test). Thankfully once all was understood, took daily pill, got undetectable and back thriving. Mentally took a while longer to soak it all in due to way it happened, however the core attitude was to take my own accountability and build from that. Now it's all about living as well as possible! Congratulations on changing your circle and finding a direction in how you want life to be.

@@Peter.c106 Interesting indeed how some operate. Maybe they just in the mindset of you have a Wifey and children, so not really latching on to certain things. For me it's different as some questioning stemmed from who was sleeping with and my role etc.. Pairing that with symptoms and having not taken a test, it probably made it easier to suggest (not it should come from just those aspects). What I'd never forget is her alertness coming once she felt swelling on neck and under armpit.
