Thank you so much for this video! I'm a single father here in the state of Ohio. I can say from my heart that my kids and I are truly blessed with such an amazing wonderful young Lady! She is without a question our family and will always be! I will call her BB don't feel comfortable to use her real name without her knowing. BB is from the beautiful country of Thailand! Yes at first it was a little stressful but more for BB than my kids and myself. Because of the culture shock for BB and of course she missed her family very much! I was understanding and patient with BB I also was blessed to have my sister who only lives 8 miles from me to help and comfort BB while I was working or traveling for work. BB caught on very quickly! She is a very strong young Lady! Yes it takes understanding from both sides! This means understanding from the host parent/parents as well! These Young Women are coming to a different Country which can seem like a different planet! They miss their beautiful family they have to quickly adjust to a different culture! So I guess my message is more for host parents...Please be understanding and patient with the young Lady! Remember they are people with feelings and emotions just as you and I! I promise your Au pair Daughter will be so amazing for your children and yourself! She will make you proud to watch her grow as a person! So please be kind and loving to her. My kids have learned so so much from my Thai Daughter because in my eyes and heart she is a Daughter to me! My kids speak more Thai than English at home because they think the language is very cool😂❤❤ Also remember an Au Pair is most definitely not becoming Rich from her job! So be generous from your heart to her! I promise if you love and respect her she will give you the same! I love my thai daughter so very much! I'm blessed and grateful for her! I can't wait to watch her accomplish her life goals and dreams and give her the biggest hug! Also please remember that we are all of the human race and we have more in common than a part!

Many years ago, I suspect that Au Pairs were girls who didn't have great opportunities for education or careers. So a girl who had taken care of younger siblings and had been raised by her mother to cook and clean house would have exactly the experience to work as an Au Pair. Whereas today, girls know that they can be doctors or lawyers or corporate managers, and with smaller family sizes they probably didn't have younger siblings to take care of. We live in a 'what's in it for me?' world, so why would you travel thousands of miles to be a servant? I'm sure it can be a good experience, but far fewer young women would be a good fit for the job.

That’s great ! I want my niece to experience that and become mature learn how to be responsible. I think people from beginning are like you said than they learn the life which they wouldn’t in most own families especially today kids don’t help parents like you said they eat and leave dishes behind i talk about teenagers around 16 y old they don’t do anything the parents do all the home responsibilities. I was aupair in England in London and then New York and California. I see my 19 y old niece struggling with life like find a job or have own room her whole life because her useless dad never worked 23 years she had hard life . Id like her to come to USA where actual I live past 20 years and I can help her out if there is any language or other problems even there is coordinator which helped me when there were problems with my host family and their 16 y ild son was ordering drugs and marijuana pipes on my name . Yeah I had some interesting family that’s why communication with your coordinator is important that’s why they transferred me to other family in California before Id get in very bad legal situation. I had 3 host families as aupair. Maybe I should make a video as well. My 3 th family was great but my second the kid was trouble maker and dad was Jewish and wanted me to do work on their 15 bedroom 7 bathroom house ! Gardening etc for free !!! My first family fed me only frozen bag of veggies I lost 20 kg and I was just Muscle I did bodybuilding prior my year in England 🏴 my coordinator saw me after 6 months and told my host family which was single father very poor and cheap , told him to feed me meat and get me gym membership because I lost the 20 kg it was actually in 6 months i lost that much weight, than it was better. So you need to talk to your coordinator some families try anything to use you , but others were more lucky Rich families and not so cheap they travel and get gifts like laptops etc . I was only one of 3 males 2 were gay so basically I was only one real man out of 80 of us Aupairs in New York .

if you want to be an aupair in America you need to go through an agency. I would not recommend just finding families on Facebook without you having an agency in the back. They will tell you everything you need (paperwork wise) and will connect you with families who are in the same agency as you are.

If you have like 2 kids and they are fighting for that one toys how do you solve that? How do you deal with a baby with tantrums?
@annawilhelm5937
Жыл бұрын
I always true to observe on who had it first and if they can share it or offer an alternative. Tantrums are totally normal and I always try to be calm and speak in a calm voice, I ensure the child that it’s safe and hear and loved and that I’m here. Sometimes I pick them up and just walk around with them or get a book to distract them. Sometimes they just need to cry it out like we adults do too. I always try to validate their feelings and try to figure out why he/ she is upset. I hope that helps 😘

Hello, can I ask a question? If we ask our parents to enroll us in the school when we go and then pay for it by working ourselves, would they accept it? I heard it from a girl. And do they enroll us in the language course the first year we come? And do we have days off? Let's say we want to go to a concert. Do they allow?
@annawilhelm5937
7 ай бұрын
Do you mean your host parents or your actual parents? You chose your own classes through the organization or you local college depending what works best for your schedule and your host families situation. You can choose to do a language class or do that in your free time if you want. And yes you’re allowed to work 45 hours per week 10 hours a day. You’ll have time off to do your own thing/ go to concerts etc. I’m sure your host family will be excited to share their American culture with you!

@@annawilhelm5937 Oh yes, my au pair family gives me 210 dollars a month. Do they send me to this okey plus language course? Or is there no need? If the family speaks full English, can you learn it yourself in 1-2 years? I want to reach the C2 level because I want to live there. And I have another question, if I go back to my university. Can I study the remaining courses at a university there? Can I pay the fee with a scholarship or on my own? I guess I need to convert to a student visa to stay permanently, right?
