I have a large compacta that I have had for about five years. It was one of my first plants. Moved last fall and of course it had to come. It’s full and beautiful but it has a few bare spots. I realized those spots reflected the rough times I went through whether I was very sick or overwhelmed with work. It shows my scars and it also shows we are survivors so I now see the bare spots in a whole new light. And, she’s finally starting to fill in the bare spots, we’re both healing together. She’s a stunner. Thanks for all the information you give us and don’t be hard on yourself, look what you have accomplished over the last few years. You continue to amaze me.

Honestly, I have come to the realization that the whole "don't overwater your plants" thing, scared me into becoming a terrible under-waterer. It's all about moderation.

Me too. Everyone says air on the side of less when it comes to Hoyer, but some of mine nearly died until I figured out they wanted water every three or four days. Of course, a couple of mine don’t want water unless it’s been three weeks, but it’s all about figuring out what works for each plant.

The one you called clemensorium I think is actually callistophylla. The clemensorium has thinner pointier leaves, darker colour, and the veins sort of bulge out. It looks more prehistoric.

Hi Kaylee! I’m glad you said the thing about an actual spider web vs spider mites. I almost panicked when I saw a regular spider web starting near one or two of my plants. Buuuut then I realized I RARELY move those particular ones so it was much more likely to be an actual spider lol. This wasn’t a tiny cluster webbing on the plants, it was like one or two long strings so yeah. Whew!

Loved this video so much! I "collect" Hoya and own about 130 different varieties as of now. I'm sure someone said this in a comment somewhere, but if you trellis the ones with the long vines, or even put a "post/stick" in the pot for it to wrap around/hold it onto that post with plant velcro, you will get leaves on the vines. They're just looking for support before they put leaves on that vine. If they can't find a support they either won't put out leaves on it or it will take much, much longer. Really fun video to watch! (Still watching, so sorry if you know this and mention it later 🙃)

Your Grey Ghosts look lovely! It seems that they havd definitely thrived a bit on neglect. My pubicaylyx is not a special cultivar and it has some nice pinky splash from being close to a grow light, so I'd agree with you on that guess. Enjoyed the update video, and I also like how your eye look is like a subtle reflection of the silvery hoyas. 😊

Hoya’s are my favourite really enjoyed this video. The Hoya Compacta definitely my favourite i have the normal green one. Wow the mauna loa first time seen this one I actually like that one more than the variegated one. The Hoya Heuschkeliana Variegata is so pretty I would love to have this but not easy to come by. Loving the Hoya’s with the very silvery splashes first time seeing these. Sometimes buying Hoya’s online you be lucky to get one with alot of variegations and super silvery splashes and a sun-stress one. My Hoya Sun Rise only has a little bit of sun stressed definitely looks more prettier when it turn to this colour. The Hoya Macrophylla is my favourite also i have a small size one still waiting to be able to get a fuller one. The Krohniana Super Silver is a gorgeous one the only silver Hoya that i have. There are more Hoya’s now where you can get them easily and i even came across in my nursery the first time. The Hoya Krimson Queen and Princess the only Hoya’s that i have that are variegated. The Hoya Mathilde also another one seeing coming online. The Hoya Kerri variegated still on the hunt for one I recently came across the normal one which I purchased but the variegated one definitely more prettier.

If you ever get bald/ bare spots on the compacta vine, the leaves can grow back and fill out the bald spots, mine dropped lots of leaves in a move and they're all growing back and filling out the bare vine again 😊

I 100% agree that the Hoya compacta variegata (white and pink outside edge one) is tough. I’ve realized they do better in a plastic or glazed pot, need slightly richer soil (not just cactus dirt, not too dry and loose), and they don’t tolerate being dry for very long or the roots just turn to dry paper and die. After I improved the soil quality and started watering more, I finally have a new leaf coming in.

It seems like hoya pubicalyx splash have a lot of variability in terms of variegation, the one I got a couple months ago has way less silver in it and the leaves come in a pretty burgundy color. It also grows fairly quickly which was a nice surprise cause hoyas have a reputation of being slow. Sidenote, your eyeshadow looks pretty in this video, thats my favourite shade of green

I guess no one commented about H. crassipetiolata splash so... There are at least 4 versions of crassipetiolata, that all have similar inflorescence. One long leaved form, three shorter leaved forms - these each have different-shaped leaves. All of them can come in the splash or non-splash version. Clemensiorum has erect veining, and the leaves are much thicker (like 3-4mm thick), it is likely a callistophylla ssp. The hoyas with thicker leaves are generally very resistant to underwatering. However, I would recommend increasing the watering on the polyneuras (or self-watering in pon) if you are having trouble with them. H. carnosa-s are all climbers - therefore they might be happier if you prop them on wires, or let them latch on a damp wooden board (mind the mealies though)

There actually are fours types of pubicalyx. There is the Royal Hawaiian purple (which turns black when sun stresses), then the pink silver (the splash turns more pink). They are SUPER fast growers. There is also red buttons and black dragon! My pink and purple both get SO splashy. Like grey ghost silver. Lol Hoyas are so amazing, and the more light the more splashy they can get. I think my most prolific bloomer is my lacunosa. And my quickest growing is a tie between my Mathilde (turning splash) and my crassipetiolata
@thewonkybotanist

Pubicalyx is such a minefield, there are gazillions of them. However, both ‘Pink Silver’ and ‘Royal Hawaiian Purple’ are actually named for their flower colours. I see people mislabel pubicalyx all the time as there’s a myth that if it has pink splash it has to be ‘Pink Silver’. Any of them (and many other Hoya species) can get pink splash, that’s just an environmental thing. Also I believe ‘Black Dragon’ is pubicorolla now, not pubicalyx xx

Also, the naming for some of the carnosa varieties...another rabbit hole 😂 AH074 people feel revert, but I do find that I dont think it fully reverts. Can always chop it back to the last fully variegated portion. Mine likes to send out long runner vines before throwing leaves so that's normal. I hope you get more blooms on yours because they're so so fun! The prices in the hoya market are a bit wild lol. It's probably a good thing you haven't kept up to date on that 😅 there's some good fb groups with good memes. Both your Crassipetiolata look lovely. The fun thing with hoyas is the growing conditions affect their growth big time, and I LOVE seeing the way the typical growth can change depending on conditions you give it! Thanks so much for sharing your hoyas, this is a fun video. Nova ghost is a reverted argentea princess and is a little more pubescent leaves whereas grey ghost is a diff variety 😊
