ik i’m late but i’ve been looking stuff up. when i was 7 i still had my teether and i would have it with me a lot, if helped me. then one day my parents took it away and my habit started. since then i’ve been biting my cheeks my lips and random objects. you might find me with legos in my mouth or just anything small enough that it will fit in my mouth. i asked my parents many times to buy me a teether so i could chew that but she keeps saying no. just recently i used hot glue and i glued something together and it made a big clump of the glue. the glue now is falling apart because i’ve been chewing on it but after i realized i liked chewing on that i made myself a teether our of hot glue, burned myself a lot but i haven’t bitten my cheeks in 4 days! FOUR DAYS. that may not sound like a lot but it is for me. i bite my cheeks and lips about everyday all day so four days is so much. the hot glue teether (which i’m chewing on right now) isn’t good enough because as i chew on it it thins out and eventually my parents will find out and throw it out. i really need a real teether to help me but my mom is just so uneducated about everything and doesn’t realize it’s a problem.

Hi Maruka! I hope the sensory chews help. I love how there are so many options for sensory chewing and biting things out of frustration (we have one kid who does that too sometimes). Thank you for saying hi!

yes I also chew on stuff out of anxiety and when I'm trying to focus funny enough I brought a pen last night because of how many people drive down the road to pack n save before lock-down was initiated

I'm a big fan of the sensory diet! My older girl used a "chew tube" (theraband blue tubing), she is also a picker (ie pimples etc) any ideas for keeping her hands off her face and arms? My younger girl is a picker but better at stopping herself.

I haven’t found anything that keeps really determined hands busy! We have a kid with a kind of similar issue and I’ve been offering tons of different textured squeezing and squish toys but without much luck transferring the stuff from something damaging to something that doesn’t hurt.

My brother chewed on everything as a kid and his t-shirts had always holes, sadly this wasnt yesterday if I say so so chewing toys for anyone over 1 year old wasnt a thing yet so he simply chewed on things and clothes until he stopped by himself..

I don’t know if you have heard of them but ark therapeutic it really awesome! They have a bunch of different colors and they have 3 color coded toughness (soft, medium, and hard). So you don’t need to get a specific one for a specific type of chewer. I have 10 of their chews and they never let me down! Again I don’t know if you have heard of them but if you have what are your thoughts on them?

I'm 23 and about to get one. I am not a big chewer but am more of one than people without ASD. I often absent-mindedly put a pencil in my mouth while thinking, and I find that eating/ chewing on something helps me focus. My family also knows that I get the idea to put things in my mouth sometimes, and when I'm a special kind of tired, it can become a real urge. I have fallen to it a couple times.

Hi my son chews on everything. He bites a lot and it’s so frustrating. He can concentrate on any activity because he immediately puts all toys to his mouth. Does its ever stop at any age or get better? I feel like his chew toys just makes the chewing worst

The chewing doesn't go away for many people with autism. The point of chewies isn't to decrease chewing, but to give an appropriate outlet for it, so other things don't get chewed on.

My 12 year old son as been chewing on things since he was about 4 years old but in the past 4 years he started chewing on metal and hard plastic. We had went to OT right before covid shut down and then never went back but I really need to get him back in there. I try not to allow him soda cans or plastic bottles because he will literally chew them to pieces (he doesn't ingest thankfully) but spits it out after he is done and then there are little pieces of metal and plastic all over the place. If I'm remembering correctly he started out chewing on his clothes till there are holes but that stopped around 2nd grade. He has severe ADHD & OCD anxiety I really need to get him some chewers thank you for making this video

My son is 2 and constantly chewing on his shirt at school well daycare. Do you know what OT helped with? Or what would be the benefit from it?
@AshLytton_JesusLovesYou

@@SittingPRETTY727 they took a vibrating stick with a textured silicone tip and would massage his cheeks on the inside and outside. Also gave him chewy tubes to use instead of him finding unsafe items. The shirt chewing is his way of focusing I bet if you watch when he does it you will find that's when he is retaining all the information his brain is processing. Who new cotton was a focus food lol jk My son would chew the collars of his shirts straight threw. He grew out of that though and moved on to shinier stuff. Still a struggle but he hasn't broken a tooth or actually swolled anything so I pick my battles. He has severe ADHD and OCD anxiety.

@@AshLytton_JesusLovesYou omg Thank you!!! So much lol I feel super alone going through it! . . I got to the point of thinking that maybe daycare is too overwhelming for him and could possibly be causing stress or anxiety. I do have speech therapy for him not sure what I can say to convince the doctor to do OT . Sometimes it's hard because I know something is different compared to other children. Thank you again, and good job mama for working hard for your son. I hope you can get him back into therapy since they are back to doing OT now .
