Just before watching this I was rubbing Camilla oil on three French pocket knives! I love your videos, thank you for putting in all of the work.

That’s so interesting, in Hawaii we use coconut oil or cut up coconuts for the oils, the higher carbon content of the blade the blacker it turns but no rust and it keeps it safe and sharp and when chopping it helps reduce friction, and it helps weather proof wood and gives it a nice darker color too

Why Wako does not have Millions of subs is beyond my understanding. Watching him for so many years is like therapy...reminds me of Mr. Rogers in that regard.

Awesome! I used to look for this oil because samurai sword maintenance recomendations. Never found it, except buying samurai swords maintenance kits (with litte brass hammer, powder, etc). A good replacement for camelia oil (not better, but closer than other oils) is Coconut oil. It´s food safe, same skin and hair properties, etc. Here in south America is more easy to find. Regards from Argentina.

dip that handle into the oil, let it drip off and wait for a few hours...then polish it with a towel. if you want to seal it forever use beeswax kooked with linseadoil and kameliaoil. 50/25/25.

I use mixed wax- virgin olive oil and some herbs.It's a medicine for dry skin and general skin use but, I found it does the best job on wood! oil+wax, all of these natural, excellent quality! You can make your own recipe at home.That's by far the best for axe handles too! It offers maximum protection and makes the grip antislipery, while it has a great natural worm feel!

you just have to be careful, natural oils can go rancid, so if you are storing it, it might be better to use mineral oil on the blade, because mineral oil does not go rancid.

Hey virtuovice, you can be more efficient with the oil if you use microfiber cloth (the kind you use to clean your glasses). Some oil is wasted when you use cotton towel because it gets soaked in.

@roadkillanonymous4807

He stated towards the end it’s black and white ebony wood. I’d be interested if he does anything for his gun stocks too…I own firearms and have never done anything with the stocks but do apply oil to the exterior metal parts from time to time to ward off rust.

100% pure camellia oil is recommended if you use the knife for a food related purpose. If the knife is not related to food at all, mineral oil is more recommended. www.amazon.com/Oshima-Tsubaki-Camellia-Hair-Care/dp/B0022NHBFK/ref=lp_3037658011_1_1_a_it?srs=3037658011&ie=UTF8&qid=1550906224&sr=8-1

Sensei...there are versions of mineral oil available in drug stores here in the US that are indicated as laxative, I use this for food prep knife presevation in a wood block after wash and dry. It is harmless..but the mineral oil from hardware stores is toxic...correct.

Yep, some mineral oils are food safe and the bottle will usually say so. For example Ikea sells a mineral oils which is meant for treating wooden kitchen utensils and is food safe.
