Just bought this pattern yesterday. I originally made the long version in a forest green double knit for a Christmas party in 1976!

Thank you so much, I love retro so much, I really think I was meant to be young in the 70s haha! The red dress was a Burda pattern, now discontinued sadly, but we do still stock the gorgeous fabric here www.sewessential.co.uk/fabrics/dressmaking-fabrics/plain-woven-fabrics/plain-medium-weight-crepe-fabric

Wore these in the 70s. Had an emerald green one with white collar and cuffs. You could do this up in dark velvet with dupioni silk cuffs and collar and top it off with fabulous vintage cuff links. Lots of ways to wear this. Nice casual look with the stripes, perfect for early spring.

Very nice make!! I have this pattern. I inherited it from my mom along with a few other choice 70's patterns. Yours is perfect. Thank you for inspiring me to use it again to make a new spring dress for myself. Nice work, as always.

A lovely dress. I made two of this dress in 1976 for after my youngest daughter was born as I was able to tighten the wrap as my body returned to 'normal'. If the pattern is the same as it was its an easy sew and fit.

Hello! thank you for this video. Your dress is gorgeous and beautifully sewn (the armhole and side matchings). Does the dress stay closed in strong winds? The DvF wrap dress has always been for me the pinnacle of femininity, elegance and comfort. The reissue of this pattern is finally available in France. I've been wanting to get this for so long! Bought yesterday. Ghislaine from France

In history of the wrap dress started in the Shang dynasty before spreading to Korea and Japan. East Asia and Central Asia. Actually the kimonos were the 1st nut in any case it’s a nice design and fun to make easy enough to make

I've been looking at the DvF website... they still have pretty much the same dress! (But theirs are silk jersey...) The main difference seems to be a wide band on the wrap, rather than a simple hemmed edge (should be an easy enough change to make).

Super excited there is a re-issue of this pattern and - more importantly - that I might get to make a wrap dress that isn't too low cut at the front (I have a short torso so pretty much EVERY wrap dress 'off the wrack' doesn't fit correctly - or any dress - and I overstretch the fabric & distort the dress having to pull/wrap it tighter, this is how I have come back to sewing recently to get dresses & clothes that fit). Question: Do you think this dress would be a good first project for someone who hasn't sewn with stretch/knits before and/or do you have a tutorial for knits? Fun fact: I've been going to local community sewing course and 2 out of the 8 in the group recommended your channel chatting in class yesterday, thank you for inspiring us newbies (we are all Brits living overseas...).

Really interesting vlog Lucy. Is there a need for the back seam in the skirt or could the pattern be cut on the fold?

@@lisagandola2254 The skirt seems very loose at the hem. In my opinion, unfortunately, you cannot cut the back in one piece. But sewing has a use: it stabilizes the fabric and prevents it from deforming. Ghislaine from France
