You would have loved the original EPCOT. Where Mission Space is now, was Horizons, possibly one of the best dark rides ever. And instead of Test Track, the ride World of Motion. All done with optimism and hope for the future. Need I mention the original Journey into Imagination? Brilliant.

All great references and memories. And the music. I remember the “futuristic” Epcot Center music. You’d start to hear it in the parking lot as you’re walking towards the entrance plaza. Epic!

Sweet ending showing Walt’s EPCOT intro. I wish I could have been around while he was alive (better yet, wish he had survived). My mom always spoke of watching “Uncle Walt” on tv. America’s uncle. I know he wasn’t perfect, but there are so many traits to look up to- vision, creativity, optimism, sincerity… I feel like my gen (X) had trouble producing people with that brand of optimism. It takes some kind of alchemy to get to that level! Thanks Brickey for sharing your appreciation of Walt!

So true. As I recall for a while our gen was called “the cynical generation.” I’m at the older end, grew up during & post-Watergate, also Vietnam, etc. Optimism is hard sometimes…

No wonder your favorites are Disneyland and Epcot. Both Walt’s dreams and both the firsts of their kind. I’m right there with you. Funny how many people think of Walt as uncle Walt (maybe grandpa Walt), even though he passed before many of us were born. Great episode!

I am a 57-year-old man that has gone to EPCOT almost every year since it opened. I absolutely love seeing it through your eyes. And YES I also wish the world could be like a day in any Disney Park. My favorite park is still Disneyland. Was there last September but I can't wait to go back to EPCOT hopefully late this year or early next. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing.

Great video mate! I have a similar video on my channel of my very first visit to Epcot a few years ago as a 30-something adult. After growing up being spellbound seeing it on tv, it’s really a magical place and my only regret is that I didn’t get to experience it in its heyday! I totally agree about how cool it is to see the 70s/80s design aesthetic; one of my favourite things to do is go to places like the Land Pavilion and think about how it looks exactly the same as it did in the days it was built! And thanks for shooting with a wide lens; I do that too because I figure it gives viewers a more immersive experience, closer to how much their eyes would see if they were actually there!

One interesting design element you may have missed when talking about the cement barriers / walls is that, originally, the design of the left or West side of the park where Mission Space lies, you did notice the sharps angles to all the planter barriers and seating areas. These sharp angles were designed specifically for that side of the park which housed more industrial/ technology driven attractions such as energy, future living, and transportation. If you goto the other side of the park, the planters and cement barriers to the water features and such are round and flowing which spoke to the more natural and organic state of the attractions such as The Land and The Seas. It’s probably one of the most overlooked urban design details at EPCOT. Awesome geek vibes on this huge design choice made to fit the EPCOT Center of old which is sorely missed and made me fall in love with WDW in the first place.
@mushieslushie

Honestly never thought that much about the shape of the planters. I am familiar with both sides but never put thought to the fact that they were different even though I knew they were. It makes sense though. The Test Track side has always felt way more EPCOT to me though.

After I got done watching this video, I just sat there glaring at a blank screen pondering and processing what I had just seen. I must have sat there for a good 5 minutes in a completely different world mentally. The perspectives you bring and your attention to details are very thought provoking. A lot of channels mainly focus on the rides, or the food, or the merch, which is fine. I don't have a problem with that. But you present us with an education. We get a little history lesson, throw in some art classes and mix in some design school. You don't just point something out and say, "Hey, look at that", and move on. You tell us why it is like that, what the thought process is behind it and what the Imagineers were aiming for. You put a lot of hard work, time and effort into your videos and it really shows. Great job Brickey, as usual. Looking forward to the next one.

I guess you don't mind supporting a corporation that favors government employees (teachers/school administrators/school psychologists) over parents. Allowing the schools to manipulate your children without your consent is evil. Disney supports the government employees over parents.
