I watch another Appalachian channel where the lady makes this cake as well. It was handed down to her from relatives and it’s her favorite cake. She uses fresh apples to make her cake. It sounds delicious! I would like to make it at least once. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Grandma, you could have gotten six even portions out of your first batch of dough. I think your problem was your pans were bigger than nine inches. I could be wrong on that part but you still could have divided that dough into six evenly portions. All that work for more dough. The cakes are supposed to be much thinner. Find a KZitem video on making this cake. You still see what they do so you won’t have to work quite so hard and long. We do however, appreciate what you’ve done for us to make this cake. What you do is put the cake together and wait 24 hours after it’s put together before you eat it. That’s the whole purpose is to allow that apple butter to seep into each layer. And you do put apple butter on the top layer and then sprinkle powdered sugar on top of too.

My Mom, who has gone on to heaven, used to make stack cakes. They were so good and she was a wonderful cook. Like you she made homemade bread, rolls, biscuits, and cakes of all kinds. Mom even made homemade hamburger and hotdog buns as well as homemade donuts. She made an Orange Slice Candy Cake that was so good. (I tried to make the Orange Slice Candy cake one time. It was expensive to make because of all the ingredients. My cake would not get done so I baked it longer. When I took it out of the oven, it was so heavy. We couldn't slice it or even eat it. It was terrible!! My husband said they could play ball with it. Lol) She was a cook at my elementary school for years. Back then, they had some mighty good meals in the cafeteria. Now, they all this processed foods they fix for our children. I wish I could be half the cook she was. I miss my Mom so much and I plan on seeing her some day!!

My grandmother never made stack cakes but a dear friend of hers would often visit and spend the day baking. One of the things she would bake was stack cake. She sometimes used blackberry jam between the layers, other times it was my grandma's homemade apple butter. She made a thick glaze icing to spread on top and let it drip down the sides. She wouldn't cut it until it had "rested" several hours, so the jam or apple butter could soak into the cookie-like layer.

I tried to get this simple recipe posted here to help Mamaw but it was taken down or something! Its like the mock apple pie she made but it is mock apple stack cake and its very simple and delicious! Mock Apple Stack Cake I box cinnamon graham crackers ( or plain if you prefer) I jar apple butter Place 2 graham crackers on a long piece of foil Spread each cracker liberally with dollops of apple butter and continue to spread crackers and stack . Its so easy like making a sandwich ( 2 cracker stacks side by side) Continue spreading and stacking until you have 2 equal stacks placed together. Spread apple butter all around the outsides of the stack, making sure to coat the top. Bring foil over the cake till its covered and sealed and refrigerate overnight!! You will be pleasantly surprised how great it tastes and its very nice to look at also! Never seen anyone who didn't love it and it tastes like you labored a very long time! Try it........2 ingredients and takes about 10-15 minutes. No baking and everyone will want your secret! Can someone help me get this to Margaret? I've not been able to get responses about items I used to send... don't know what the problem was but I watch sometimes still and always pray for them and all the people here! Thank you kindly and God bless each of you! 💞✝️🛐🙏💗
