Sam...Thank you for your service. My Dad was Air Force (68-72) and was a Crew Chief on RF-4C #68-0567. I myself am a Desert Storm Veteran. I served in the Navy aboard USS LaMoure County (LST-1194). I was in from 1990-1996.

For those of you are aware Sam is being very modest, specifically when he is referencing his time with the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbird pilots flying leave very few outs if something goes wrong so they need 'perfectly' maintained aircraft without compromise. Sam, thank you for your service and should we find time I would greatly enjoy talking airplanes. P.S. Ironically, I got the money for my pilot license by detailing cars for people in town starting at age 14.

F-4s, B-52s, T-38 Tweets, (& eventually) Fighting Falcons(: used to fly over our house as a kid from Carswell AFB. Now Navy, Marines & Air Force Reserve took it over as Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth , Carswell Field. The F-16 manufacturing has moved out of state, and the F-35 A B C production is in full swing. We also have retired C-130 Blue Angels "Fat Albert" chillin' out by a busy public road. Thank you for your service. I did the same thing with the USMC. Enlisted in '64 to get a guaranteed aviation MOS 7113, Air Delivery Specialist. We had the C-130 Hercules, at VMGR152 in Da Nang and Okinawa. The Flying Brick (F4 Phantom) was the one plane that kept us awake at all my duty stations. A two-term E7 is outstanding, Congratulations.

My dad is an Army vet. Joined up in 1973 when he was 18. Didn’t get sent to Vietnam, but Germany rather. He was an MP (military police). He always said the Air Force had the best food. Visited an air base while in Germany and said they had real silverware and plates, not the stuff he was used to in the Army, lol. I wish I had enlisted when I was younger. Air Force or the Navy sound interesting and it would’ve been nice to see the world and serve my country. When I was in my late teens/early 20s though any sort of military service sounded absurd to me. Age definitely makes you see things differently. (I’m 43) Thanks for your service Mr Sam!

Very cool Mr. Sam! My Dad was in the Air Force from '59 to '63. He got out right before he would've had to go to Vietnam. He never told me he was an aircraft tech until I told him that I wanted to go to school to fix planes when I was 21. He gave me a strange look and told me he did that in the Air Force. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale and became police officer from '65 to '90. I never did because I got a job working in the drag racing industry and I never looked back. Today I continue to build some really cool street cars and a drag car here and there. All of you have breathed a renewed amount of life back into the industry. Thank you!
