It's pathetic, gaslighting a teenager to feel guilty about not being legally required to share her funds.

@@MetalSStar196- Technically he wasn't financially irresponsible. His ex wife took all his money in the divorce, left him broke and he had to start all over again. He's also probably paying alimony as well.

Didn't OP mention that her father's family thought that her mother was a gold digger? Seems mom proved them to be correct. I wonder if the only reason Step-dad married mom was for the kid's college fund?

Yes, step-dad's ex-wife was the gold digger and the reason that he was broke after the divorce. However, I still believe that the stepdad only married mom because of the college fund!

The first thing she should think about is, what did her father had in mind for the inheritance. He wanted to help HIS own kid, not others. People should always respect the wishes of the one who left the money. I have two kids and if I died, only MY kids should get the money. Her mother I a bad garbage person.

So after you posted all the hurt your mother and step family had caused you, she is now manipulating the situation to guilt you into second guessing your self. Your mother created a new family for herself with step family and I’m sure if she could have, she would have off loaded you onto someone, but she got stuck with you. Honey, forget her and move on. You didn’t do any thing wrong and she is now paying the price for her selfishness. Go live your best life.❤

It's not your fault it's your mom's fault because she wants her to split her college fund with my step siblings and she friend to kick her out of the house and that's not right and she should pay for her actions and go to hell for what she has done to her and if you guys can't see that then you guys are delusional and she should be ashamed of herself and she doesn't deserve anything for she threatened her to kicked her out of the house because I didn't split her college fund with her step siblings and you don't have to apologize for any of that because this is her's mother's fault.

Op, your mother ruined her own life. Go live. A good healthy life without them. And never let her back in especially when her step kids don’t want her anymore and husband divorces her after she’s done helping raise them for him. She will be alone, looking for handouts and wanting to reconcile in her old age. Don’t do it. Nta

Ok, college applications go out the summer of junior year. Very few colleges allow freshmen to live off campus. Really hard to believe this story is true.

Not necessarily true. Many colleges don’t have a Fall or early Summer deadline, and most of those deadlines can be for financial aid, not admissions. OP didn’t believe she needed the money. This is assuming she lives in the US even. I lived off campus all four years 30 years ago. My 18yo old cousin was almost shut out of housing this fall for her freshman year but lucked out and got a school apartment at dorm room rates because the dorms were full. Her mother just told us some freshmen will have to live off campus because there wasn’t enough housing.

My problem is she applied and got in a few months later. I had to apply to schools during my junior year. Now saying that was over a decade ago. But I don’t think colleges make decisions like that only a few months before semester unless it’s a community college. State Schools and universities need to know their enrollment in advance because they have limited slots. Maybe I misunderstood the story.
