Hello friends, this flour you bought is used to make cheese bread and other things, for farofa flour it is important to look for 'toasted' cassava flour. A hug from Brazil!

If you don't find, you can try with panko flour (japanese), it's also good. Farofa works with any flour that is grainy.

@@alexandretorres5087 it`s not necessarily toasted, it`s a texture thing. Has to do with the process of making it. There`s the toasted farinha de mandioca, and the one that`s not toasted, but same texture.

That was a very good first try feijoada. I would suggest you guys to get stuff, mainly farofa and beans, from the Brazilian Market (they just opened a physical store in Toronto but they deliver through all GTA afaik) or from the Padaria Toronto. We tried to make feijoada with just stuff from here but it didn't work very well. For the beans you gotta get the brazilian black beans as most of the canned stuff we tried gave the lighter color. Get some carne seca, some of the brazilian sausages, put some pork belly and you should be good to go. We also use kale here and it is quite similar to the original greens. Very good stuff Ivana cooked though!

To make farofa u have to melt the butter in the pan and put a little bit of onion, garlic, rosemary, basil or something like that and cook until brown. Then u add some spices like paprika, lemon pepper, salt and some chicken/meat flavor spice. Then u turn off the fire and put the casava flour until it gets the farofa consistency . You can also make farofa using another type of flour like corn flakes it's also really good. Just follow the recipe and you'll get a delicious farofa

Tip for making a good homemade farofa: 2 to 3 eggs scrambled to the point well done (set aside) 300gr fried bacon in small cubes (set aside) 1 large onion coarsely chopped 3 cloves of minced garlic 2 (tea cups) of "toasted" cassava flour butter chopped parsley salt to taste Preparation: In the same pan that fried the bacon, keep the bacon fat and add two spoons of butter and fry the onion for 3 minutes, add the garlic and wait for it to start to brown (you can add a pinch of salt). Add the bacon and then gradually add the cassava flour, stirring constantly, until the fats are absorbed by the flour (do not overdo it with the flour, ideally it should be slightly damp) adjust the salt, add the eggs and chopped parsley . mix it up and you're done.

I'm impressed with how you were able to cook feijoada in Canada. In Brazil we used the expression whole feijoada (feijoada complete) which uses pig's ear, feet, tails and the light feijoada that uses normal meat, bacon and sausages. Also we use an expression "Who doesn't have a dog, hunt with the cat" for situation you need to arrange for your conditions. As I'm living in Japna, it was very difficult to find kale, then I used the cabbage on behalf. So, I think you'll need to find the Canadian way to cook feijoada. I'll be glad to someday be able to try your feijoada style. Congrats for your nice feijoada! My honest consideration, this farofa could be improved!

Hi Steve and Ivana. We were happy to see you trying to made Feijoada and flour. Sadly the flour didn't work, but you did a good Feijoda. We (me and my mom) want to give you some tips. 1. When you fried the ribbs you can put the Cooking oil with the flour to give some taste, or you need to melt the butter before put the flour. 2. You need to buy the black beans on natural. You can fried the ribbs after put the beans and the ribbs in a pressure cooker, will be more tastie. 3. Use a LOT of garlic. 4. We miss you soo much! Come back to Brazil!

(google translator) I've been working as a cook for 7 years, and one of the easiest ways to make farofa is with breadcrumbs and manioc flour, divide it in half and mix it right after melting the butter and frying the ingredients of your preferably, if you want to make it tastier, add chopped boiled eggs, peppers, grated carrots, some meat broth to make it wetter, among many other things. Now if you don't have cassava flour you can make it with breadcrumbs alone, it won't be the same but you can do it., now if you only have cassava flour you can make it too and it will be very good

Look, unfortunately, cassava flour isn't the proper "flour", I haven't seen toasted cassava four in Toronto at a regular supermarket. Head over to the Brazilian area in Toronto around Dundas and Duffering and you should be able to find even Feijoada kits with the ingredients, regular black beans which will me it a bit darker in color, and toasted cassava flour. You can buy the pre-made flavored stuff or go for the unflavored and do it yourself at home :) But amazing, amazing job !!! looks delish :)

Hi guys!! Feijoada: you guys did a good job, but I have to talk about it hehe. I think the meat was very good. But If i was cooking it, i will do it like Ivana did at first (cooking each meat). In the pan I fried the onion and then added the garlic. Only then add the meat and beans. Add just one (or two) bay leaves because its very strong. Put the water like you did at 3:30 (or a little less), then cook it for a while (like 10-15 min or the until the broth thickens alone, you dont need to smashed the beans). the broth thickens on its own as it cooks. and when you go to eat again, it gets thicker and thicker when you heat it up to eat it. obviously black pepper and salt are used in feijoada as well. And chives and cilantro, both chopped. when I make feijoada, I cook the beans and meat separately in the pressure cooker. but since you already have the cooked beans, then I don't think it's necessary to do it in the pressure cooker 3:57 seeing it, i think this flour is for tapioca /pao de queijo. In Brazil, the cassava flour that we use to do tapioca, we call it "fécula de mandioca" (or polvilho), while the cassava flour that we use to do farofa we call it "farinha de mandioca" (which means cassava flour in english). Both are from cassava (mandioca), but they are different. I search it on walmart canada and I find the "Yoki Seasoned Cassava Flour" (which is farofa already made, so you dont have to put on a pan) or Yoki Toasted Cassava Flour (here we have to do it like you guys did, we could do it on a pan, and seasoned with fried onions or minced garlic before putting the cassava flour). if you ask me which of the two is the best, I would choose the non-seasoned because when we season the farofa it tastes much better than the made one. There is yellow and white cassava flour. Both can be made farofa, but those who make it with the white one usually add a powder to give color, which we call here "coloral" (only to make it more presentable, but the taste does not change, being white) PS: i saw on walmart from Canada that the polvilho/fécula de mandioca one is known like "cassava starch" (for tapioca/ pao de queijo). buuuut the cassava flour that you guys bought, i think its the "starch" one.
